My 2nd Tranny is acting up... anyone else??

Wsup dudes, got my coupe in November and I believe I was one of early ones to get my tranny replaced for the grinding issue. They replaced it and now the new one is acting up. The frequency is increasing. Has anyone replaced their tranny twice??

Grinding going into 3rd, right? A friend of mine with a 350Z has had his replaced twice, as well. I'm lucky - my Feb. delivery coupe has not shown the problem (yet?)..

Re: My 2nd Tranny is acting up... anyone else??

When I first got the G I had problems shifting to 3rd gear (usually in the morning when i first start the car). It would grind going into it. I thought it was me and i started to drive more cautious making sure i had the clutch all the way in before i shifted. But it kept doing it more and more frequently only on 3rd gear. For a while i was even skipping third gear and went directly to 4th. I finally got some time to take it in and San Diego Infiniti said they never heard of anything like it but they replaced the tranny with a new one. But the weird thing is, they added some sort of part that made the friction point unbelievably higher than before. The friction point is now right before the clutch is all the way up. I guess they thought maybe it was my fault and the way i drive. They told me they don't have a fix for it yet and that it will be a temporary thing. i didn't have a problem with the clutch and got used to it. Now it's been a few months since my new tranny was put in and it is starting to grind once again mostly 3rd gear and sometimes 4th. And the frequency is going up again.

Does anyone know if this is a national problem? Are they working on this issue or is there not enough people with this problem?

This is definitely a national problem. In fact I am surprised there are dealers out there who have not seen this yet.

I am on my first tranny and see problems identical to yours (grinding in 3rd, at first just sporadically but now constantly). And I put clutch in all the way, good stick driver, etc. I have a feeling Nissan is working overtime to fix this thing.

I thought I read on this forum that the tranny problem was addressed on the 04 models. And that the "new" tranny was the one being installed for all 03's with the problem. Hmmm.....

You should check into the "lemon law". I don't know how it works but this is ridiculous. Sounds like you got yourself the japanese version of the Yugo.

I've read of one guy being on his third (counting from the one that came with the car) trans in under 5K miles. Still, it doesn't sound like it's a massive problem. Of course that means, if it happens to you (or me), it's massive. I hope all our trannies hold up, or get replaced with good ones. My reading had me believing that the "F" orders delivered in May and later, were good 6MT's. That could be wrong, I guess.

I got my G in November of last year and replaced the tranny I think in January.

I just called San Diego Infiniti and made an appointment. Looks like they are going to replace it again. Does anyone know if they have a sure fix now????

Re: My 2nd Tranny is acting up... anyone else??

there are only 832 coupes with the 6MT, so i think it would be safe to say that it is a relatively "massive"/widespread problem

I have had mine replaced, no problems from it yet. I really dont mind. I mean as long as they continue to replace it everytime it acts up. I doubt that many of you will keep the car past the warranty anyway, seeing that the average person only keeps a new car for approx. 3 years.
