Going to the track 1st time-any advise?

Going to Englishtown, NJ raceway park tonight to race 1/4 mile with my friend who has a 1.8T Jetta with a chip and shiet load of mods. He did 14.75 last year, with a pretty long peel out at launch. I just want to know what's the best for the G. For those who raced, what RPM should I keep it at at launch, at what RPM should I shift, to maximize tire grip and gain speed fast. Should I let some air out of the tires or is that not necessary?? Should I do a warm up peel out?? I'm completely stock with just a K&N drop in that I put in last nite.
Thanks in advance.

Just have fun. What numbers does he run in the 1/4 mile? Your best time will probably be a 14.5. Don't worry too much about reaction time and the lights. It will record your time from the moment you move forward, so take your time. This way you won't have to concentrate on the lights, but can focus on the launch. If I rev over 2k, I get too much wheel spin. I keep it around 2k and gently ease off the clutch so I get forward progress instead of major wheel spin. Completely get off the clutch as soon as I pass the friction point and floor it. Shift at redline.

Only if you are in a head to head competition, which is only for special events.

Where do you live theknite? I just went to english town on sat. Keep the rpm's under 2k and feather the clutch from the launch - spin the wheels before line up - it will help you stick better!

Thanks

I meant it's the first time at the track with the G. I've been to the track twice before with my Maxima, but now with the G and especially since I'll be competing with my friend I don't want to waste time with trial-and-error ish.
Thanks a lot to those that actually gave some pointers.
Hopefully I'll have some pictures. Take care. I'm leaving work in 2 hrs and going straight there.

can't have your windows down - they make you put them up!

I never got that. I never get past 110mph on the 1/4, but I'll be doing 130+ on a road course where my windows have to be down.

I agree but I guess it's a safety thing in case you crash.

as far as dropping the psi on your tires, it would depend on the size of your rims... i have stock 19's and i wouldn't drop PSI on em, but someone else can also comment on this. i would normally drop the 15's on my integra to 22-25psi...

anywho, pretty much everyone gave you enough ideas. just make sure to take fluids for yourself if you're gonna be there for a long time... other than that, be safe and have fun!

Track

Just came back. I did 3 runs, last and best 1/4 mile 14.675. Peeled out for a second before each run, and tried to launch from 2k rpms. This will do for now.

Congrats. Pretty good time for first runs. Some more tips for the future
- 1/2 tank for better traction but not too much weight
- dont drop the psi on the stock tires - no theoretical explanation but I simply tried it once on the track and they spun more
- if staging is done with only one photocell, try to stage as far from the cell as allowed. this way you're passing it (starting the clock) already with some speed
- windows up, AC off, mirrors folded
- I'm not sure about the redline shift. Me with spacer - maybe, but for stock it's probably best to shift so that after the shift the rpms drop to the point where the torque peaks
