$500 to Machine Rotors!!

I just got back from the dealer and they charged me $506 to machine all 4 rotors and install 4 sets of pads!!! I showed up with my own pads thinking that it would cost about $150-$200 to machine and install the pads. What a ripoff - I should have asked before I left the car.

I usually wouldn't go to the dealer but I had the axle ticking noise and window regulator warranty work to have done.

That is what I was thinking. I paid $135 for Hawk pads and brought them in to be put on thinking that resurfacing the rotors and installing the pads would be around $150. When I asked why $500 - they told me that they use a 'special' machine process on these performance rotors! Not much I can do after the fact but make sure you ask ahead of time or don't go to the stealership! What a ripoff.

if you take the rotors in to Autozone or most any garage, they can turn them for less than $10 each usually. I know it doesn't help in your case, but in the future maybe.

Did they give you a written estimate? IMO - they ripped you off.

HI:

Complete brake job just done on an 89 MK3 Supra. Cost was $500 in parts for: Goodridge steel braded brake lines, porterfield steet racing pads, rotors re-surfaced @ $10 ea, and rebuilt calipers via NAPA. All work done at home for free It would probably cost $400 to $500 in labor if done by the dealer.

unreal - the $500 was just to resurface the rotors and install the pads - it did not include the price of the pads (i paid for them seperate). It looks like I got severely ripped off.

I hear you on the estimate but I dropped the pads off and told him to not replace the rotors thinking that the entire charge would be around $150. What can I do at this point?

I would start with talking to the service manager and express how you feel. I would then threaten to report this to the BBB and let him know you are active on several websites. Also let them know you are going to write complaint letters to the corporate office of Infiniti. I dont know how much it will help but go in there being somewhat nice but extremely stern and upset about being ripped off.

Ouch!! Damn that's a little pricey. I know somebody that has a complete set of 05 brakes with 500 miles on them for 750.00. Sorry bro.

I'd never go back to that dealer for anything.....find a trust worthy mechanic....buy him a six pack.....every visit...(after the work is done).

Thanks for the advice - I am going to call the manager tomorrow. Does anyone know how much it should cost to have the dealer machine all 4 rotors and install front and rear pads?
