3rd gear grinds under hard acceleration, should I tell dealer?

Hey Guys,

Under hard acceleration (4k rpm and above) and quick shifts, 3rd gear grinds. This happens on the upshift as well as downshift. However this only happens under hard acceleration, not under normal driving conditions. My car has 21k miles and is under warranty. Should I tell the dealer the problem is only under hard acceleration? I don't want them to think I am racing my car, I just want to make sure I'm not going to have a big problem on my hands when 60k miles rolls around. Thanks

Hooman

It will get worse! If you can replicate it with the tech in the car then you will get a new dual syncro tranny!

Still waiting for mine to go out.

Did you have a problem under hard accleration, or normal driving? I'm just worried they will void it because I was "driving too hard". IMO (which is prob similar to many on this board) the 6mt sports coupe is meant to be a sports car and driving over 4k rpm should not be a problem. I just don't want to shoot myself in the foot.

I'm thinking I should have the tech drive my car with me in it, and tell him to punch it.

Racing or not, your car's still in warranty. No worries there. How long has 3rd gear been acting up? If it's been awhile, I'd have one of the tech check it out. The sooner the better before it effects anything else.

It's been like this for about 50-100 miles. It's happens everytime under hard acceleration, but I don't drive it hard into or out of 3rd gear. I don't want to damage anything.

I would wait till your tranny falls out behind your car while your driving down the road. Then I would take it in and tell them you think you hear something under the hood.

I just had mine replaced under warranty last week.

Early 03, started grinding 3rd at 21K miles.

Dealer said no problem, as they had seen a lot of the early 03's go bad and that they are 3 generations past the first tranny and that the new ones are stronger.

Wow I am SO SURPRISED they didn't pin it on the Vortech SC.

Uhhhh....the Vortech went on the very next day.......lol

But the dealer was the one saying that I should go ahead and replace it before I installed the SC, cause the new tranny was stronger.

There you have it. Replacing is won't be a prob especially since you have the 1st generation G. Damn...I hope there's nothing wrong with the 05' models.
