September already...sheesh. Time to start thinking about winter wheels in my neighborhood. What are you Northerners rolling on this season vs last season? I'm in Indiana—gets tricky here in the southern part of the state with the hills and crappy road maintenance (I'm used to Cleveland plows) and trust me, we get hella snow sometimes.

I was leaning toward 17's (225/50/17 F - 235/50/17 R) with a wheel that I wouldnt mind running in the summer here and there as well (with summer tires in the summer obviously). I figure in the summer the 17's would cruise nice on the lonnnng trips vs the rattling OEM 19's.

Which tires? Which wheels? These are my first winter-specific sneakers so I'm shopping and comparing e a r l y. I have an 05 Coupe 6MT Premium with the OEM 19's. Bone stock suspension.

I don't know of any wheels that will work w/ the 05' 6mt. Check Tire Racks website and they don't list a single wheel for this model (I also have an 05' 6mt w/ 19's). I checked with a local tire store that we deal with (I work at a dealership) he in turn called a supplier who stated he did not know of any wheels that would work with the 05' 6mt.

Maybe someone else know different. The good news is that Bridgestone makes a performance snow tire in our size. I believe they are the Blizzak LM25. Here is the link to Tire Rack.

They are not cheap but I am definitely going to pick up a set.

tirerack.com has 19" blizzaks available specific to the OEM 19s...i checked earlier today
they run a total of $914 for all 4.

 

just went with what everyone else was using and got the blizzak lm-22s on 17" wheels for winter

 

Yeah guys I checked tirerack.com before I posted. Thats why I was asking...was hoping someone knew something that I wasn't able to unearth myself.

This sucks. I was wondering if the brakes were too large to accomodate a 17" or 18" wheel. But I find it hard to believe that there aren't even any 18"s that will work. There's gotta be a solution other than running my 19's year-round. I don't want them to start corroding and getting sandblasted by the cinders that they lay on the roads here. Damn I hate that crap on the roads.

 

I second that. I was going to try and buy a set of OEM 17's with winter tires. Will these not work either? I have an 05 6MT as well. I am going to be very disappointed if I have to run the 19's in the winter.

 

17s will work with the 05s... i ran the OEM 17s with Blizzak LM-22s last winter and it's fine... i have a 5AT 05 with the sport suspension which is the same as the 6MT... the brakes are smaller than the 03-04 brembos btw so they fit the oem 17s...

 

Just call Tirerack. They have tons of wheel tire combos that are not listed on the web.

 

for some reason 05 G models don't give out results on tirerack.com. try selecting 04 models on the drop down and it will give you a lot of winter combos for the G.

 

I was thinking the same at first, but I'm uncertain about the clearance of the calipers. Sure as hell would be nice to get some of the OEM 17's though. The sets are dirt cheap on eBay lately.

But then...tsolin01 says the 17's will work. Hmmm...

Depends on where you live. How much snow will you drive in.
Blizzaks are great all round winter tires.
I live in the Poconos, so lots of snow with a 40 mile commute.
I went with the Dunlop graspic's.
225/50/17 front.
225/55/17 rear.
