YES, TURN OFF VDC WHEN RACING, i cannot stress that enough!
It will eat your clutch and slow you down, if you leave vdc on.

Will turning off VDC make the handling worse in normal conditions?

Re: New to Driving Stick

no, because VDC wont let you do drifting turns
i recommend that you keep VDC on if you dont know your car's limits yet.

I always turn VDC off on dry pavement, but only because i know the limits now, this car handles great with vdc off (cost me $90 so far though hehe DAMN THE MAN!)

Re: New to Driving Stick

also, VDC is not about handeling, its about safety and keeping your car in it's intended path.
However, sometimes you want to initiate an oversteer when coming up on a tight turn in first gear, VDC wont let you do that, it will just cut off the engine power so that you do not slide on the turn.

Re: New to Driving Stick

i see! thanks alot for your help guys. since im new and all to driving stick i think im gonna keep it on until i get a better feel for the limit. my car before the g35 was a 99 mustang and let me tell you, i think that car has the worst handling possible, so im still a little scared on the twistys!

I know what you mean about being scared on the twisties! I drove a Camero for several years, that's gotta be worse than the Mustang. If I had halfway-used tires forget about it! Slip and slide. NO powering into left-hand turns either. Had to take curves like a little old lady.

When I test drove the G (still waiting for mine) the salesman, who was also a Camero owner, really encouraged me to take the turns fast on a twisty road. That sold me! It'll be awhile before I take VDC off. I plan to practice in a wet parking lot with the VDC off after I have lots of fun with it on.
