your out of luck dude, but you can get an aftermarket nav installed for 3-4K
or you can get one of these

Good luck.

Re: HELP ME GUYS I WANT NAVIGATION SYSTEM

$3-4k? You nutz? I just priced a Kenwood OR Pioneer system with a generic 5" monitor for 2k INSTALLED.

Check out these models on Ebay and find a friend who knows how to install them:
Kenwood KNA-DV2100
Alpine NVE-N852A
Pioneer Avic-9dvd

These aftermarket systems are better IMHO than the stock unit. You can program on the fly, operate via voice or touch screen (if you pay extra for such a unit) and play DVD's.

Re: HELP ME GUYS I WANT NAVIGATION SYSTEM

I just got a Garmin Streetpilot III - a fantastic automotive GPS voice system and they have a $100 rebate until July 7. I am not sure how it will fit in your G35 as I am still in the purchase planning stage, but it fits great in my Legend coupe.

Re: HELP ME GUYS I WANT NAVIGATION SYSTEM

I have the Garmin StreetPilot III. I love that unit and I can move it between my 4 cars. I have the remote antenna laying on the dash with mine. With the built-in antenna removed, the Garmin unit sets right down into the top of the compartment where the factory GPS units rises from. It sets there at a perfect angle and is very easy to read.

Re: HELP ME GUYS I WANT NAVIGATION SYSTEM

Take a look at these pictures to give you an idea how I installed my SteetPilot III in the G35c. I think these units are outstanding. None of the $2K factory units are flash ROM upgradeable.

Re: HELP ME GUYS I WANT NAVIGATION SYSTEM

A 3rd party navigation system is your best bet. As mentioned, there are severa third partyl options to choose from (ranging from PDA's with NAV software to portable NAV systems to car-installed factory systems).

In response to the factory unit not being flash ROM upgradeable, I think you may be mistaken on that. Family member owns an '02 Q45. When the new maps came out (and yes, you do have to purchase the update), it came with two disks. One was the new map, but before you could use it, you put in another to upgrade the car's firmware (and there are some definite software changes). I suspect it may be the same for the G.

Re: HELP ME GUYS I WANT NAVIGATION SYSTEM

I stand corrected. Knew they had the map upgrades, but was unaware that they also had software upgrades as well. However, as you point out, they are not free. The software upgrades are free with the StreetPilot.

Re: HELP ME GUYS I WANT NAVIGATION SYSTEM

Expect a professional shop that does good work to charge about $2700-$3000 installed for a DVD/Navigation unit with a nice monitor. You could purchase these navi/dvd units online, but remember, shops will not warranty those items. If for some reason, the parts don't work, you would need to send them back to the store you purchased from for warranty. On the flip side, if you buy it from a shop, this could save you a lot of problems later down the line.

As for price, yes, some shops could charge a lot less installed, but beware of places that quote low prices. First of all, they will likely cut costs somewhere where you're unaware of. For example, wires could cost anywhere from $10 to $150.

Stick to the brand names and avoid flea market systems. They usually sell stuff from Taiwan & Korea. I get a lot of customers who come into the shop and bring their own dvd/navi systems and want them installed. Usually what happens is they realize the quality of the screens and dvd/navi is not up to par with what they see at the shows and they start complaining. Here's where price and quality carries a correlation - audio/video systems.

Expect shops to charge $200-$250 for a dvd or navi unit. $350 -$400 for dvd / navi unit and 2-3 screens.

Hope this helps.

Oops, I meant......here's what they'll charge for labor if you bring in a unit to have installed.
