Do you have the VIN? The 8th digit from the right (the one before the Mxxxxxx serial number) is the year. 3 = 2003, 4 = 2004, 5 = 2005.
If your dealer says your car is worth only $20,000, I'd try a private party sale. You'll get a few grand more for sure.

Yup, wholesales is 28K, with options and equiptment it's 29K. Usually with private sale you probably go down to about 2,000 cash back on wholesale. You're looking to sell your car around 24-26K easily. The hard part about selling your car privately is that, most people doesnt have 26K "CASH" to purchase the car since there's no finance option avaiable thru Private seller. But yea, if you could find a buyer, go for it. save you 5-6K.
03 30k fully loaded with navi for $20k is low for sure ... one thing you have to remember though when you trade in instead of doing private sale is that if you trade it in you only pay tax on the difference of the two cars which even if you traded in your 03 for 20k and got the 04 for 30k you would save about $1500 in taxes.
just to add ... I traded in my 03 AT with 50k miles on it, fully loaded but no navi for $20k, yea a bit low maybe, but I saved on taxes and got a sweet deal on a brand new fully loaded 05 MT with navi for $35k. So only paid taxes on 15g.

Go on ebay. See how much they are selling there. In fact, you may want to post the whole thing on ebay.
Someone with a manual 04 might want to switch to automatic, and get several k on top of that in the deal.

private sales seem very intimidating if you have never done it before. I would try to post up a private sales ad online. Compare prices of some used cars to see what price to start. You should definitely research prices and take the process slow. The dealer will definitely offer you less. The only advantage would be the ease of the trade with dealerships.
i had this same dilema last summer, i searched like crazy, the best way to do this is deff find some kind of dealer(not infiniti) and go in for a trade, and make the dealer feel like you wanna buy the car TODAY. hes gonna try to give you the best deal he can to make a sale THAT DAY. i kind of took a hit, but hey thats the name of the game.....shoulda started with the MT. went from an 03 AT Navi and ps2(some body damage)16k~~~~> 03 MT very stock(perfect shape)27k, PLUS $1200 for the trade
