Car jumps after parking

I've noticed this happening atleast twice now. When shutting off the engine, I usually put the car into 1st gear and put the parking break on. At which point I would turn off the engine and remove my key. Then when I take my foot off the clutch, I can feel the car jerk forward as if it stalls. Is this because I've left the car in gear? Both times this has occured after moving my car in my parking garage; so they were very short trips. Any idea what this could be?

its better you leave the car in neutral with ur e-brake up. Unless you live on a hill, you shouldnt have to leave it in gear.

Survey says *ding*
That's what it sounds like 2 me. When I park my car it's: Clutch In, Neutral, Ebrake, Shut Car Off, Clutch in, put in 1st (sometimes, i just use ebrake and leave it in Neutral)

Hmmm . . . I usually have the car in 1st gear while the clutch pedal is fully depressed . . . Turn the ignition off and release the clutch without any issues or mishaps. Perhaps, you might be releasing the clutch pedal prior to the engine shutting down?

Technically speaking, you are supposed to always leave your car in gear no matter what.

I usually dont' because i come from turbo charged cars with turbo timers.. so it has become habit for me to leave the car in neutral.

you must be releasing the clutch too soon. Allow the engine to fully stop first then release the clutch.
I personally leave it in 1st, & apply the ebrake. better to be safe than sorry.

I know I had the key out and in my hand. One foot on clutch, the other on the break. After I let the clutch out, I feel the jump. Even though I still have my foot on the break, and the e-break has been pulled.

I think it's a good habit to get into, especially when parked on even a slight incline.

1st gear is a must! i found my MR2 in the middle of a street one morning and good thing nobody was hit.
anyway, there is no freaking way in the world your car will be jumping by itself unless a 'force' of something is applied! you should wait til the engine is totally off before releasing the clutch. have you called the ghostbusters yet?

Give the engine at least 2-3 seconds to stop after shutting it off, and then let the clutch out. There is nothing wrong with the car, you do not have to worry.
