Whenever I go there, I can't replicate it and they said they can't do anything. If I took it back in LA, they would have replaced it by now. Oh well, it has stopped for now.
well if they can't replicate a problem, how can they fix it? Not everyone is technical like us on this forum, so I'm sure they get a lot of people that come in and say...I heard a noise fix it. Every time I've had a problem, I do my research, and give them the car. They've haven't denied me anything yet.

Go in with a TSB, that helps a lot, or printouts from manuals or websites

Discover has been very helpful to me. Other than the occasional beat up loaner car, I have no gripes with them. They treat everyone with respect. Which is good.

Ya, I went in with the TSB number and even so, they said they need to replicate it. With Miller Infiniti, where I bought my car, they take my word for it.

Hooman,

I thought I was nuts that my tranny was grinding going from 2nd to 3rd gear. I thought I forgot how to drive a stick after 15 years. It seems to happen when I turn a corner left and upshift, and must be extremely precise with the shift or the damn thing will grind in my hand and scare the you-know-what out of me. Let me know if the new tranny shifts smoother than the '03 original, which is a notchy tranny (but better than my old Altima's). I've been lucky so far with the CD player not screwing up. I have the fuel guage issue, but it is intermittent. So far the dealership hasn't offered a new tranny and told me that if the fuel is off by only 1/8th, they will not repair it. It took two years for them to replace a squeaky nav unit, that they kept insisting was not the problem. I guess they really don't want to spend any serious money to repair the "big ticket" items.

That's all fine and dandy until you meet someone who has had their tranny replaced 3 times. These are the early 2003 350z and G35 6mts. Seems it took Nissan a few times to get it right.

Yea but the point is the dealer is actually doing it for him, how can he complain? Alot of us in the same position have had to deal with alot of dealer BS and even then some of us STILL don't get a new tranny. He is fortunate enough that he doesn't have to waste any energy on fighting for it.

By being a picky customer, the next time he needs something, do you think this dealer will be reluctant to do it for him? Maybe, or maybe not. Besides, I highly doubt they will give him the same revision if there were bugs back then or else they would have to deal with him again. What dealer wants that?

That's right. They don't want to fix the same thing over and over again.

On a side note, if you've had your tranny replaced 3 times, you might want to check your state laws because you may be eligible for a "lemon law buyback". I think it's 3 times for the same problem here in california, but I'm not sure. In any case, you should def. look into it.

I'm gettin sooo antsy waiting for them to call. I hope the shifting is not too smooth, I kinda like the notchy feel. Feels like the car is more raw.

I was afraid of the same thing, but if they can replicate it then you shouldn't have problems. Tell the SA to drive the car with you in it. Tell him how to reproduce it. Mine occured over 4k rpm, which is not as stressfull on the engine. Does it occur every time?

I don't see it as being "picky" as much as being an informed consumer. I'm not sure how large his dealer's parts inventory is, but they may have an earlier revision just sitting there. The reason for my post is to inform this consumer of the latest tranny revision, because anything earlier will lead to re-work. I've had my tranny replaced once, but only after waiting for Nissan to get it right after reading about numerous guys getting the job done again up to 3 times. They didn't even second guess me. I haven't heard of anyone being turned down for warranty work for a bad tranny, unless they're F/I. If it is a legitimate grind and not the inherent chatter and notchiness of the 6mt, most dealers will do the work.

Who here has been turned down for a new tranny?

Secondly, I don't see them doing the work as a favor. It's their job to back up their product whose warranty was paid for when he bought the car. They'll keep replacing the tranny like robots, because most of them are unaware of these forums and the latest revisions. This is because Nissan has not declared a TSB for the transmission. Sometimes it's the consumer that needs to be proactive. I have a very good relationship with my dealer and I've never been turned down for any warranty work and just look at my mod list. Unfortunately, it's the uninformed consumer who gets the run-around. If you go into the dealer with the facts and talk like you know what you're talking about, you'll get better results. To the original poster, good luck with the work being done to your car. I hope you don't have to get it done again.

I appreciate your concern and I agree with what your saying. It is their job to back up their work. I just feel if they are replacing the entire tranny, they are trying to do something right. Esp since I've had little headaches. I called, then checked, then replaced. All in all it's only been 4 days. I've heard nightmare stories of mutliple trips to the dealer, denials, etc. I'm happy, and with service like this, even if I do have to take it back in. They treated me right and I'm not complaining.

Heck...i don't mind a new tranny every 20k miles.

Also I got a call from the dealer they are still waiting for the tranny to come in, so I think it will be a newer revision. He said the whole tranny replacing takes about 3 hours, so I hope I can have my car by the EOB today.

By the way, if your clutch engages much higher, and its softer than before, you got an 05 tranny...
