just got a call from the dealer...looks like I'm getting a new tranny

So I had issues with grinding from 2nd gear to 3rd gear with RPM's over 4,000. At first I was hesitant to take the car in, fearing they would say the 4,000+ rpm gear changes is racing and racing voids your warranty. (I've heard horror stories...I don't know). But after the advice of people here I took it in. Today I got a call from the tech and he's like you're car will be ready tommorrow or Wed with a new tranny. I was shocked...I figured they would try to squirm their way out of it, but nope. Excellent service (so far) took my car in on Saturday for a new Bose head unit (CD error), and tranny.

So what should I expect from the new tranny. I hear it's an 05 dual syncro tranny not the original 03 tranny, is this true?

Moral of the story...if your car is grinding gears and you can replicate it...take the car in and you may get a new transmission.

Thanks Discover Infiniti.

The problem with the CD player is that it's made by Bose and they suck. Many people have gotten error messages and sometimes couldn't get the CD's out so the dealerships replaced the HU. Then they had to wait months to get thier CD's back. Bose suck, I also had problems with mine, it didn't get any error messages but sometimes the driver side speaker would go out. I thought there was something wrong with the speaker or the amp but after researching the problem in here I fixed it by taking out all the CD's and reinserting it. Go figure. Bose sucks I can't wait until I save up enough money to get an aftermarket HU.

when I pressed the "CD" button I would get "error F0". That was easily dealt with. I called them and told them of the problem. He got my vin and mileage over the phone and said "I'll call you when the new head unit gets in". He didn't make me go in for that. When I went to go get the head unit installed I also mentioned the tranny issues. That's when they test drove it and said I need a new one.

Make sure you get tranny number 8 (8th revision).

Ask them for the part number before installation. The new tranny should have "CD-0008" in the part number. A new clutch and flywheel should accompany the install.

they said they already ordered the tranny, and the car should be ready today or tommorrow. Should I call them back? Or wait

Who cares...they are already taking care of you...plus what are you gonna say to someone replacing it with a new tranny..."No, take it back cause its not the 8th revision"? I think the MOST you can do is just call to FIND out what it is, not halt operations lol...

yeah...that's what I'm thinking. If the car doesn't grind in 3rd gear anymore...as far as I'm concerned it's fixed. A new clutch would be nice, but those are costs that you already plan for when buying the car.

I just want my car back. I have a z-tube sitting in my room. I need to install it.

The CD player / head unit isn't made by Bose, its made by Clarion. Bose just makes the speakers and amplifier. Bose doesn't make any automotive head units.

I had the same error message, which ate all my CD's, and the dealer replaced the entire head unit. I was supposed to get my CD's back from the factory, but never did.

I'm taking my car in to Discover tomorrow for a popping noise issue. Discover is a pretty good dealership, but they are pretty strict on things. I had another problem where the rear passenger side make a high pitched squealing noise when I am driving under 40 sometimes and stops when I tap the brakes. Whenever I go there, I can't replicate it and they said they can't do anything. If I took it back in LA, they would have replaced it by now. Oh well, it has stopped for now.
