Auto + Manual
Auto + Manual
Driving my Auto coupe the other day, I accidentely put my shifter into Manual Mode (no damage) but ever since that time I can shift Manualy Up and Down on the gears, where as before, I could only shift up and the Trany downshifted down automaticaly. This is great!!!

Rambo Be NICE !!!! lol
That's cool Cat... I wouldn't recomending downshifting to first since it does it automatically on Manual mode

Don't feel bad bro. First time I was out in my new A/T Coupe, I was in manual mode and didn't realize it shifted down by itself (the selection). I thought oh i'm still in 3 like on the Sedan I had, WRONG -- I was in 1, so when I took off again, there I am bouncing the tach off the limiter b4 i figured out what the hell was going on. All this with about 50 miles on the car!
Good thing they're built tough.

Re: Auto + Manual
Now you've confused me dude. It almost sounds like you've got the Sedan automatic if the indicated gear # does not change. In the Sedan's Manual Mode, as the tranny shifts down (by itself) the indicated gear number on the dash does not change. Thereby shifting back up to that #.
On the Coupe's Manual Mode, as the tranny shifts down (by itself) the indicated gear # on the dash changes down as the tranny gears down. Thereby holding 1st gear and necessitating shifting back up again.

You guys missed the point, the car does NOT shift down automaticaly in Manual mode, I have to do it myself.

Your car should shift down automatically whether you've got a Coupe or Sedan. You shouldn't have to shift it manually.
If it's not working that way then there's something wrong. Have it looked at.

Re: Auto + Manual
Depending on how fast you're going YES it still will AUTOMATICALLY downshift for you. If you're going 80 and have it on 5th gear it WON'T downshift to 4th UNTIL you are going about 40 MPH, maybe 50 DEPENDING ON how fast you're decelerating. Most of the time you are going the same speed so it WON'T downshift on it's own.

Lot's of those guys at the Dealer's are dumb as dirt accept the Mechanic's who are most likely underpaid, but other then that the Salesman, manager etc.. Don't know much about the cars.. Just focusses on selling it to you. Thats about it... hence the name $tealers... When I went to look at my car for the first time the sales dude didn't know jack squat about the car... Only knew that it has 280hp and is "fast"... That's all he said... I was like duhhhhhh sheeesh...

Well, now you've just learned another - and probably more valuable - lesson:
Never trust the dealer. Most car dealer salesmen / service guys are blithely ignorant, and will give you answers out their *** just to sound as if they're not entirely clueless.
For REAL answers, you need to check with Infiniti directly, or of course - come to this forum!

That's what I meant, bro. In manumatic mode, It will shift down automaticlly at it's own predetermined points when slowing, the same as will happen in Auto mode.
As you said, If you're in manumatic mode and need some engine braking from speed, then manually shifting down to an appropriate gear is needed to get any kind of 'help'.
It sounds like xthecat's dealer told him wrong. You can downshift manually (within the limitations of your speed) ,: Obviously the car won't allow a shift to 2nd gear from 80mph. As you said tho, a quick downshift to 4th at tat speed sure helps.
