my coupe is a hummer
my coupe is a hummer
im almost 28k still on oem 18s pilots and they're noisy as hell. i can hear them hum even coming to a stop. still got decent thread and grip but will be replacing soon. the pilots are ok w/ me but anything with similar performance but less of a hummer in the long run please recommend. thanks.
I ran Dunlop's SP Sport on my accord coupe and the response on those were flawless. Compared to the Michelin's I had originally, it handled better on slick rainy conditions. Costs a whole heck more than Pilots tho. Since you didn't mention what's your tire ratings, I assume you have the 05' performance pkg at 225/45/18. Dunlop came out with a new UNTESTED tire - Dunlop Direzza DZ101. You can check it out at http://www.dunloptire.com/dunlop/dis...00000&zipCode=. Threads look like it was made for slick conditions. Good luck!
If you got 28k out of a set of pilots you aren't having enough fun with your car
and probably shouldn't spend the kind of money needed to get the performance of the pilots. Get some decent all season performance tires that will also be quieter.

oh yeah im having fun. im just more responsible and dont jump at every stoplight encounter or twisties that come my way. probably when i was younger and didn't have a care in the world. or when i get new tires again
or when im in my bike. now thats fun

I cant believe you tires are still good at 28k. As for your humming sound, mine did the same thing especially when I was slowing down. Your front end is probably out of alignment and the insides of your front tires are probably feathered. Many of the the 03 G35's and 350 Z's were misaligned in the factory. Id see your service department about this if I were you.

I have 46k on the oem pilots(fronts...replaced the rears at 25 k). My car is humming too....the inner tread is worn bald....the ouside of tire still has plenty.

mine's been doing it since 6k miles.
I've taken it in 2 times, and both times have been told to "replace the front tires and align".
I'm going to call Infiniti assistance and see what they say about this. Almost positive that they will just tell me to do the happy dance with myself, buuuuuuuut
any more defects with the car, and it's going to go to lemon land.
(note: I've already been stranded for about 2 hours on the highway at 2 in the morning cause of a failed crankshaft sensor and the damn thing rattles.)

well my tread wear is even and i dont have any alignment nor steering issues. i could drive 80 and the car would go straight as an arrow. its just the damn tires are noisy when they wear out.
I do most of the wearing of my tires on some local interstate ramps and a couple of sweeping turns when they are empty. I don't jump on the car either in a straight line, its the corners I enjoy the most. Both my front and rear tires wore out evenly at 17,500 miles.
