man sorry to make a joke outa this but the more lightly i take this storm, the easier i think it will be for me to get through it... The thing i am most scared of is that my neighborhood is right next to a poorer area that ALWAYS floods in bad storms... im afraid there will be looting from them and the front of my neighborhood floods, meaning no way for police to get in/out. My dad and I have shotguns loaded up and are ready for it however

gman2004....im not at the coast.....way inland (katy)....the tape is only to hold the glass together and keep it from fragmenting all over the room
the homedepot in my area is out of wood! i went in the store last night for some tree stakes and rope and it was unreal! no wood on the shelves
thanks gman2004 for your thoughts!
but good good news for us on the west side of town so far.....Rita is slowly losing some of her punch and she has moved off to the east.....bad news for the LA group
looks like it will be an exciting morning!

just a few minutes ago we had everyone who stayed on our street outside looking at a rainbow as the sky brightened to the west and very dark to the east...very cool and a real sense of camaraderie. a light rain has started but I think that we will have relatively mild next 24 hours

same here maxpower............just got back from a nice walk around the neighborhood........quiet here compared to the scene forecasted by the reporters.......there must have been 30 people outside, walking around, playing catch, having a good time.......there is barely a stiff breeze!
there will be destruction to our east.........but it does look like most people (2.5 MILLION ) have heeded the continous message of doom and gloom from the reporters and will be safe from harm...
i know......some of you will take this as being flippant........well it is......and i do recognize we are lucky to have missed the hurricane force winds........but dayum these reporters glorify things so much to get the audience to listen........
here is an example i caught on TV.......a reporter is talking to the national hurricane center....
reporter: "you mean we can expect everyone to die?"
national hurricane center: "no.......but the facts as we know them are....."

sorry I had to LOL at this post.
You make it sound like we all live in the midwest and never have had hurricanes before.
