HELP TROUBLESHOOT!! Overheating
Three weeks ago a young girl backed into me, and messed up my hood, grille, etc. Along with the body work, the radiator and fan shroud had to be replaced. I got it back from the body shop, and it looks great, but for whatever reason, during the ride back, I noticed my temperature gauge rising, and rising quickly. Once it hit the first "H" bar, it just as quickly went back to normal. After doing this for about 2-3 times, it went back to H, and was staying hot. Luckily I was right around the block from my home when this happened, so I managed to get it home. I have a feeling the body shop forgot to plug a simple sensor of some sort. I know the accident didn't damage anything else, because I was driving my car around after the accident for 2 weeks while I waited for all the parts to arrive to the body shop, and it didn't overheat once. All my fluid levels are on the money. I dont know what else it can be. Gonna take it into the shop on Monday, but figured I'd throw my situation on here, as maybe someone might be of assistance. Thanks in advance!

If it is getting hot while stopped and cools down when moving, your fan
is probably not working properly. Maybe it just needs to be plugged in??
Another thing that controls your coolant temp. is the thermostat.
I assume since the damage was mostly cosmetic that they were not messing
with that. (putting the thermostat in backwards causes bad things to happen)
If it was something like your radiator it would get hot and stay hot. So, that
about covers it.. radiator.. thermostat... radiator fan... can't think of anything else.. others?????

Almost sounds like the thermostat isn't working properly. The thermostat valve that controls the coolant flow is getting stuck and is only opening up when the temperature behind it is at a higher than normal level. You might want to have them check it out and make sure it's not binding or malfunctioning.

Wiring connections to fan & sensor and\or a loose or disconencted ground could do it also in this case... I seriously doubt it's the thermostat. Get it back to the shop but I suggest you have it trailered there, don't take a chance with the heat, they should eat the cost due to their own negligence.

Thanks for the help......I'm going to take it in on monday, and have the shop look at it. And for clarification, it does overheat while driving, so I dont think its the fan, as I hear the fan working harder than I've ever heard it from the second I turn on my car. Any more ideas?
PS...where is the thermostat located exactly?

I bet you anything you have air bubbles in the system. Since they removed your radiator your system was drained and refilled. the cooling system on the G and Z is very hard to bleed. Take it to the dealer and have them bleed it. I believe the service cost like $89. I can almost gaurantee that nothing is broken and you just need to have it bled. I had the same issues.

I had to take my radiator out when I installed my Vortech....and I initially had the same problem.
Like GMan said, I would bet that you have an air lock in the cooling system.
It is very easy to bleed the air out. There is a bleed valve on the heater hose right by the battery box. Just open it up and it will purge all the air out of the system.
