Shifting while racing...

Could someone tell me the technique you are supposed to use while racing the 6MT coupe(or any manual for that matter). When to start giving it gas again after clutching, etc. Thanks

Here is a link to a G35 vs. M3 video....you can see how the pros shift - it actually shows their clutching in a little box in the corner.

Well keep it in neutral, rev it up to 2500 to 3000 rpms and stick it in first, and just make sure you're making good use of the clutch at a fast pace and after that wait till it hit's about 6500 rpm's and shift.. After 3rd gear the race should just be about over...

Re: Shifting while racing...

Depends on what you want to accomplish and how much money you have for tranny repairs. With today's computer controlled cars with built-in rev limiters, the fastest way to shift is called "power shifting". Power shifting involves you keeping the accelerator floored at ALL times - you do no lift up on the gas at all between shifts. The motor will bump against its rev limiter for a brief split second during the shift when the clutch is in, but that's OK. This is REALLY tough on the tranny and the clutch, but will give you the quickest possible shifts. If you do this repeatedly, be prepared for transmission repairs.

Normally, when racing, you want to ease up on the gas between shifts, but don't let off on it completely. Like go from full throttle to half throttle for a split second during the shift. As for timing, basically as the clutch starts to go down, the gas should come up at the same time, and vice versa.

Re: Shifting while racing...

Whenever i drive agressively, I always chirp the tires on my shifts. Is it better to feather the clutch a little bit so this doesn't happen or is it better just to do like I'm doing right now and release the clutch quickly?
