1st G35 Speeding Ticket....
ugh well, I post this at the risk of those who will just reprimand me..but heck i post everything going on in the life of my car on this site, so eh, thought I'd share my little incident...
On my way to a revival church service last nite, was running late and I was speeding (which is so easy to do i love this car..lol) but anyway...light traffic, on the freeway on 71 I'm driving in the fast lane...I guess he clocked me at 95...in a 60...which is really moving. And i looked at the gun he showed and just thought wow, I cant believe I was going that fast...He was actually kidna laughging when he pulled me over.."What's up with this" he asks... i'm said ouch. Sorry about that. Anyway I need to slow down so I'm gonna use this as a wake up call..
Anyway, I dunno if anyone has any advice for me as I have a mandatory Court date now...I looked online for ohio, and it'll probably be 4 points and like a hefty fine I think. Middleburgh Heights, for those that dont know, are NOTORIOUS for gettin speeders. I knew its a huge speed trap but thought I'd be ok...anyway...think i should get a lawyer? What do everyone do when they get such an excessive speeding tick?
ps...
I know the chief of police in a close by suburb and he told me since i was on my way to church in the OHIO revised code theres a clause about Going to Church services or militia meetings, you're exempt. He said his brother in law used it, but i cant find it. anyone hear of such a thing?

Get a lawyer? Ok to speed if you're going to church?! o.O
1.) I'm not going to admonish you for speeding, as most have done the same, but I will diss you for trying to squirm out of it, if that's the route you go. You were speeding. You knowingly ran the risk. Pay the ticket, take the points, take accountability.
2.) The speeding-to-get-to-church thing is absolutely ridiculous, IMO. I'm not saying that it isn't the law, but it is ridiculous. How about when speeding to get to work to support your family? Fact is, if you're running late then you're late. Walk into church after it's started and you'll find it much easier to be on time the following week. Besides, better late than never.
3.) Don't be a douchebag and fight a ticket that you got going 95 in a 60... ...in an area you know to be a hot-spot.

yeah man i hear you...I'm not trying to "squirm" out of my ticket...he just mentioned it so i thought I'd see if anyone ever heard of it. And I agree, it is totally rediculous if there is a law out there.
I'm planning on just paying the ticket anyway...But I've never been caught for doing that amount of speed. I just wondered if getting a lawyer would help be the most cost effective solution, that's all.
I'm not making excuses and I do take responsibiltiy. I was DEFINITELY speeding, no doubt about that. Just thought I'd post see everyones opinions. I've seen all the posts about people yelling at other people for speeding, but i'm not a punk kid with an attitude. I'm a grown adult. I was speeding and I admit it. I'll take the blame.
Just wanted some thoughts from everyone on the board...that's all...

Go to a ticket clinic. For $50-80 they'll take care of everything. They'll even show up to court for you. You won't receive any points if they're successful. And since they're lawyers it's all legal so you can still hold your head high in church.
Either way i say goto court. They will almost always offer a reduction in fines or cost. I dont think its worth pleading innocent but pleading "guilty" or "no contest" to a lesser charge might help u in the long run.
If I was you, I'll use the Law to your advantage. If it is there, then use it. AND, if you get a lawyer, he'll use the law too. Take responsibility, Blah! Hell, there is a reason the law is the law. This isn't murder. Speeding is something that is to me a gray line. If you can safely speed then go for it. There is a reason why there are speed traps. It isn't because it is unsafe, it is for monetary purposes. Although, you were doing 95, which is a bit extreme. You know what your car is capable of. A set speed limit for all cars is arbitary. Anyways, I'm rambling now, but I would see if I can get out of it. Some things I would say you should take responsiblity and suck-it-up but not a speeding ticket. Your call.
Why would you not try and "squirm" out of it? If you could get away with no points/expenses you'd have to be an idiot not to. Just because you aren't getting the point and paying the fines doesn't mean that you haven't learned a lesson from the experience. The scare may be enough.
Speeding laws in this country suck anyway, they have to keep them as low as they do because of all the idiot drivers who don't pay attention. I personally speed- pretty much all the time too, but I'm smart about it. I only speed when it is safe to do so, and I pay incredible attention when driving. In my 7 years of driving, I've had no accidents (and no speeding tickets).

Well, I think you have a good consensus on this. GT_Ron must be a saint but is very much alone on his view (thus far). So, get out of it or at the very least, go to court and get the reduction to a lesser charge.
Yeah no i agree with you guys on all this...i know their for monetary purposes. I understand excessive speeding isnt the greatest idea...but like the fines they charge are absolutely rediculous. A point system alone would work fine...
I admit i was speeding, but I didnt want to come across like I was trying to have an attitude about it.
I'm lookin online tho now for maybe a traffic lawyer that can help this out. Any good sites someone could recommend? Its worth a shot if I dont have to pay 500 bucks for a ticket and no points. I'd even go to traffic school if it would help...
Just trying to find best way to approach this...thanks everyone for the quick replies...

I don't see how getting a lawyer involved could be the most cost-efficient way to deal with this, considering the fine should be more than a couple hundred bucks max(!).
And maybe you should listen to superb16. This is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, so you'll always get the 'you got busted, pay the price' speach from me. I've always paid my tickets (and have almost always taken the Defensive Driving classes to keep them off my record). But every F'n time, I accept that I got busted. You got me. What else can be said? And you know, while my technique hasn't stopped me from speeding, it has trained me to be more aware, look further ahead, trust my gut, etc. These are the things that have kept me from getting busted. By 17 I had 5 speeding tickets. Since then (I'm 33) I've gotten a speeding ticket 3 or 4 times. Not too bad for about 15 years of habitual speeding.
I always did hate playing cops-n-robbers or cowboys-n-indians with those kids that would get shot and then insisted the were never hit. And they always did it because the easy way never allowed them to got smarter.

I have been in law enforcement and I am not one of those **** officers to give out tickets all the time but come on now 35 over the speed limit. I would have given you a ticket. I mostly stopped speeders to check for warrants but never gave tickets unless you were over by 15. Thats just wrong to try to get out of a ticket. I don't even use the fact that I was in law enforcement when I get pulled over (which is not often) to get out of a ticket but most of the time I don't get one. A lawyer isn't going to help you but hurt you so be a man just say that you were sorry and you will have better luck that is if you don't have anything else on your record. Then if you feel like you were done wrong then get a lawyer.

Can you imagine using that line in court? "Your honor, God told me to speed" or better yet "Your honor, I was just trying to hurry up to start our militia meeting".
Yikes!
Ouch I am guilty of speeding some but 95 is way too much; you really need to get a radar detector AND slow down a little. I can't see how you would get yourself out of this one. Consider yourself lucky you were not caught going faster; you would have lost your license.
You might as well have been speeding to a comic book convention. In either scenario you're driving recklessly to a place filled with BS, fantasy, and make-believe characters.
My advice (which is probably not wanted):
1. Stay away from church.
2. Don't you dare glue one of those religious fish onto your G35
3. Believe in yourself and not in some higher power that doesn't exist.
4. Read a science book!

Just fight it and/or get it lowered.
95 isnt even all that bad to be honest. I was crusing on Route 18 in NJ with another car at about 90+ reaching speeds of over 100 at times. Not something I'd condone to, but its a rush, spur of the moment thing.
