Yeah I have a radar detector, and its saved me a couple times, but this guy was shootin laser and it didnt go off until AFTER he got me.

Gosh I've been working with lawyers here but NONE are for 60 bucks! Anyone have any references to a cheaper one? I'm lookin at some that are like 400 bucks+ticket costs. So I'm trying to decide if thats even worth it.

If charged, That will only leave me at 6 points. So I doubt that it would raise my insurance...I turn 25 in about 2 weeks, and I think the insurance will actually go down....

$400!?!?!?!?! That's robbery. Haven't you gotten solicitations in the mail yet? Use one of those guys. My wife got a speeding ticket a few months ago and she used some female law firm who solicited her in the mail. $60 is all it cost us. No points. The speeding ticket would have been $150, but everything was wiped clean.

Nah i havent gotten any solicitations for any. I think i might just not take one with me and just hope for the best. I think i'm guilty and quite honestly, I dont have a defense. So i might just have to bite this one.

Gettin a lawyer wont really help me i dont think...least not $$$ wise.

Again... I suggest u goto the court date either way. You do not need a lawyer. Just by showing up they will almost (99% of the time) always offer u a reduction in points and/or fine. In new york for example, u get to talk to the cop prior to the trial, and even plead to him. If you have no past tickets they might waive it completely. ALWAYS goto court if u can.

I had a reckless ticket and went to court to plead guilty. The judge lowered the points and fine. All was well.

OH really - well yeah i'll probably just plead guilty, because i mean i dont have a defense AT ALL. Which and i mean, i WAS guilty...I could always say not guilty, and move it to a hearing date, but again, I wont have a defense.

I'm actually summoned to go to the mayors court. I heard they dont really lower anything but they just want your money (traffic cop friend told me that)

Anyway, hope 4 points more on my license wont hurt me. It'll be a total of 6 and in ohio nothin really happens to you until you get to 12 license wise...insurance tho, I'm not sure. THey might be reviewing me soon since I turn 25 in about 2 weeks. Ikes! There goes my 25 year old safe driver discount!

Can't you take a defensive driving course and have the ticket thrown out?

I've been nailed for 30+ over (on a motorcycle) and the Judge allowed it to be dropped back to a civil ticket and I was able to trump that by attending a DDC. Cost me around $120 + time going to court and the DDC.

Good luck avoiding the points/fine.

I've been hit once by photo radar in the G (prior to my 8500 X50 purchase) but never got a ticket. I think it was because I still had temp tags. Oh well....

1st - Call your insurance company and ask if one ticket will raise your rate.
If not just pay it. Keep in mind that a moving violation usually stays on your record for 3 years. So if you get another one, your insurace rate would go up unless you had a lawyer amend it to a non-moving violation.
2nd - In MO there are lawyers who only do traffic tickets and only charge about $40 bucks, court cost have been around $110-$125 for all of my tickets. TOTAL around $150. Thats not bad if it keeps no points on your liscence and your insurance rate low.

I think that defensive driving is a possibility...but I doubt I can exchange that for not having a ticket - the mayors court just wants money. They dont necessarily care about what speed I'm going etc. It pays their bills.

I called Allstate and they said that they will see that I have a moving violation and it could potentially raise rates, not necessarily based on points but just the fact that I got a moving violation. Every lawyer I called said (and btw, i called about 20 and the CHEAPEST i could find was $250 - These $40-$50 dollar attorneys dont exist here in cleveland apparently, I exhaused Google) that they could only probbaly get it reduced to two points and a smaller fine. Which defeats the purpose of gettin it down to a non moving violation and thrown out.

I'm still going back and forth in my mind about whether I should even hire a lawyer, if its just going to cost more now, esp. if none say they can get the ticket dismissed.

Dont tell your insurance company anything. My buddy works for one and he said they update their records so infrequently that you could be paying your normal rate for four years before they find the ticket, and they cant backcharge you extra b/c its their fault they didnt check.
