The fix for the glove box rattle

My coupe's been pretty good for the most part but has the dreaded
glove box rattle in colder weather over bumpy roads. I recently got a
06' Subaru LegacyWagon as our family car and after driving that, the
G35C sounded like a damned old pickup truck.

So I was determined to fix the rattle...

ROOT CAUSE:
The rattle on my car was originating from the hinge area of the glove
box door. There is just too much play on the hinge. If you open your
glove box and place one hand on the bottom of the door and one hand
at the top of the door and push/pull in a up and down motion (not
open/close motion) and hear it rattling, you have the same problem.

THE FIX:
Push a piece of hard rubber about 7-8mm thick about a size of a quarter
(I used a firewall grommet thingie I bought at Autozone) down by the
hinge area from the inside of the glove box door. There is a recess
area on the door down by the hinge where the rubber piece will lock
itself in place. Use one for each side (right/left) of the glove box compartment area.

What the rubber does is it pushes the door outward when you close
the glove box and puts some pressure on the hinge to eliminate the play.

No more rattles. give it a shot. hope it works on your car.

i dont understand how everyone is having so many problems with these random rattles. I have 35000 miles and the only thing that rattles is the sunroof frame when it is closed, but you will have that in every car, at least i do. no matter what it is BMW Saab Acura.

I think some people (like myself) are so picky that we hear every little thing...and it just annoys us...Every time I hear something in my car (new G or any of the other cars Ive had) my wife thinks im crazy..my ears are just ultra sensitive, I think most people don’t notice slight rattles.
