More treble??

I own a 2003.5 6MT and I'm disappointed with the lack of highs in the stock premium system. Any suggestions on how to improve it? Replace the speakers, add an EQ, or replace the amp? Thanks!

Ken

Yeah, the Bose blows! I guess we just have to do what my friend does with his 350Z, buy that borla exhaust, turn off his radio, open the windows, drive it hard and listen to that sweet borla sing instead.

Personally I thought the system sounds okay...better than the 3 series I think.

Its Ok. Definitely needs more treble. Systems sounds best at higher volumes. This system sounds pretty good, I just think its a bit of a let down when you pay more for premium audio. Plus, its quality doesn't seem to match the rest of the car.

Re: More treble??

you know . . it's funny . . .I've read all over this site that the sound of the Bose sucks. I just got my G35 coupe last week, and was surprised that the sound was pretty good. Defintiely not a Mark Levinson radio or anything like that . . .but clear and semi-powerful. Definitely sounds better at higher volumes than lower. Very good at about 15/16.

Then I started to wonder, why all the criticism. I think it depends on the kind of music you listen to. If you listen to hard rock/metal such as myself . . .I think you'll think the system is pretty good . . .if you listen to rap/hip-hop . . .you probably would be disappointed. . . .

Just a thought. . . .

PS: Who needs the stereo with that exhaust sound anyway . . .

Re: More treble??

Yea for the most part the stock systems isnt all that in the G coupe, but it get the job done. You know what they say, when theres no highs or low, it must be Bose.

I do have a solution, well at least it will work for me, I dont know about everyone else out there, but I plan on adding a pair of flush mount Boston Accoustic tweets up front on the pillars or somewhere like that, running off a small, lets say 100 to 150 x 2 Fosgate amp, and then drop in an Infinity amplified Basslink subwoofer that has a 10" driver. Its perfect due to the tight trunk space.

Together, they will bring to life the Bose sound system, and best of all, If you do the install yourself, you can pick up everyhing online for under $500! Just dont go to Cruthcfiield, or you'll spend almost twice that!

If and when I do the install, I'll post some pics...

Re: More treble??

limeg35,

yeah because if you take it out, the ac will not function properly. all you will get out of AC is heat. eventhough u turn on AC and set temp to 61 degrees, still heat. Also i had problem with the vdc, slip and traction light went on. This all happen when i try to remove the cassette and cd changer. I do know for a fact that AC will not function properly. But the vdc, slip and trac light, i think that was a recalled on that. I took the car to the dealer and they say it was the brake switch. So i don't really know if taking out the cassette for sure cause the vdc problem but AC for sure get screw.

The installer stated that the AC or other component might need the ground from the stock radio. Therefore, if you take it out, other system might depend on it will not funtion properly. Hope that help.

Re: More treble??

did you still have to go throught the stock radio? i mean that do i need to trun the stock on too for the aftermarket one to work?...right now my system pretty much sucked, even thought i have pretty good speakers(ADS) but they just sound lil off, i would really like to have more control for the output level, since stock radio have no RCA out, i have to use hi-lo converter, and it lost lots of signal, adjusted with gains on the amp all day, still sounded lil off...thanks for the reply...s.w.

Re: More treble??

Diamond,

Sorry to distract you thread. I didn;t mean it man.

When i had the factory system, i increase the treeble to the max and still it didn't sound high enough. My suggestion is to get a component that is capable of doing 2 ohms. The reason why i say 2 ohms because when i took out the factory front speaker, i measure the ohm and it came out to be 2.

Hope that help.

Re: More treble??

wow you measure it...at 2ohms there arent many speakers are 2ohms(stereo mode), alumapro is only one that i knew of, i would've thought that factory would use higher ohm speaker cause it will be less stress on the chargeing system, how many channels does stock amp have???wanna know what ohm they are running...s.w.
