for all those people bashing on the original poster, all i can say is that i can't wait to see your reactions when someone dings your car. once again, this self-righteousness and holier-than-thou mentality has taken over another post again.

i'm not condoning his actions, but i totally understand how he felt. i'm sorry but this is exactly why every other country hates us....bunch of hypocritical b$tches.

Just checking: would I be one of the "bashers" you're referring to?

Based on this post alone, this guy certainly gets MY vote amongst all the members of this group for "Most Likely To Do Really Well In Life".

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

Here is my 2 cents.

I got a door ding... happened to be a Jeep Cherokee too (what is it with these fu-ks?). Anyway, I parked in the lot at the end of the row as far as I could from the Jeep (it was like 3 feet). Unfortunately not quite enough. When I got back to my car, what do I see? White paint on my black G and a nice ding. It isn't too deep but you can see it on an angle.

So what did I do?

I started smashing each and every white Jeep Cherokee's windows that I find. I figure that eventually I will get the guy who did my car, and then we will be even.

P.S. Frost... were you sure that it was the Jeep that actually dinged the car? Or was it maybe another car that did it and they Jeep came after. I figure if it was another car, I could help you by smashing up every car until we find the bastard.

Sheesh.

Seriously though, I don't know how I feel about what you did. I indeed did seriously get a ding on my G, but as far as committing a crime and vandalizing someone's car... it just is not worth it to me. What if someone saw you smash in the guys hood and called the cops. You are fu-ked dude. Was it really that satisfying? Maybe it was... I sure as hell actually wished I had the sh-t that dinged my door, but what do you do. I figure it just aint worth it.

Call a dent repairer, pay your $50 and don't let it stress you out. You will live longer.

Peace.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

I for one, am proud that you stood up for yourself. I'm calling out all of the wimps who wouldn't do any damage to the other persons car.

Perhaps they will learn, perhaps they will not, but I am in 100% agreement and I would do exactly the same thing given a similar situation.

The same thought has crossed my mind every time some bozo parks next to me even when I park WAY out of the way.

I was at the UNLV campus just the other day, and saw some stupid little biotch push her door all the way onto some guys g35 coupe, probably dinging it. This idiot chick just sat there for a while, with her door resting on his door, which made me absolutely sick to my stomach.

I proceeded to call her out as I walked by, and yelled, have some respect for peoples property you dumb c*nt.

Live life a puss, die a puss - that's just not me, sorry.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

I forgot to mention, if you think he is crazy, I had a Jeep Cherokee years ago lifted up a bit, and had two incidents in which the idiots who damaged the car didn't get away.

1. An Integra parked bumper to bumper with the Jeep and scratched the brush guard. So what did I do? I put my car in drive and proceed to drive up his hood, and back down. Needless to say, I mashed his car into the ground.

2. Some old pile of shizz parked so close to my drivers side that it was actually touching it. Give me a break, I couldn't get in my car, and his car scratched my fenders as well. After climbing in my car through the pasengers side, I proceeded to turn my wheels VERY sharply while backing out and repeated the process 4 times until his doors were completely caved in.

All of you cowards on this board who think these actions are wrong or uncalled for, have apparently never been to court and lost a vehicle with more than $25,000 worth of customizing due to some idiots negligence. I'm here to tell you that the law rarely looks after the car enthusiast. Take matters into your own hand. Payback is a bi%ch.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

Um... I've had this happen 3 times now in the past year (luckily not on my G-- yet)
This is how I resolved it to my satisfaction (read: they paid for the damages, as well as ~$250 on top of it in what we agreed on as "punitive" damages):
I used the camera on my cell to take pictures of
A) their license plate and car next to mine,
B) the damage on my door,
C) the paint color/door of the other car, then
D) their door in relation to mine (so you could draw an arc from the hinge and see exactly where the door would contact mine)
Seeing as the pictures all have a timestamp, it works well in court.
I write a note and put it on their windshield wiper with a rubber band... mentioning the pictures. I make it clear that I'm sure it was an accident, however if they don't call within 24 hours, I will serve them with a lawsuit and will definitely seek punitive damages for negligence on top of compensatory to fix it.
So far, perfect results. All three were extremely apologetic... two soccer moms and an elderly women.
Sure, it's not as cathartic as smashing in a hood, but it's a bit more legal and more satisfying in the long run since you get your damages paid for as well as a little cash on top of it.
I'd recommend carrying a disposable camera in your car- $15 investment thrown in your trunk by your spare. This will help you out in ALL sorts of liability issues should they arise... imagine- you with pictures, and the other person in the accident with just their word.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

no, i wouldn't say you were a basher. you just stated your opinions but sympathized with the original poster. i just laugh when people go about preaching with that all-mighty-you should be ashamed-i would never be like that-attitude. however, i do disagree with your statement....."Clearly, you and I both care passionately about our G35s, and take great care not to ding others' cars. That's OUR reality, but other people are entitled to theirs. It would be the height of arrogance to insist that the rest of the world must feel the same way as we do about our cars."

i don't think that it is wrong to assume or expect that people respect other people's property. EVERYONE SHOULD FEEL THE SAME. by your philosophy then, i guess i'm arrogant to feel wronged when someone goes into my bank account and steals like a dollar or two. it's all a matter of perspective, right? what's a few measly dollars? NOT....it's still wrong and a crime no matter how minor it may be. a ding is still property damage and in my opinion like a hit and run if you don't fess up. and i guarantee you that those same people who ding other peoples cars and supposedly think "oh, it's nothing but a tiny ding..oh well", they get pissed off too when their cars get dinged by someone else.

"it's still wrong and a crime no matter how minor it may be."

right on thang - its not just about the physical damage. This sort of thing IS a crime and isn't right. Not knowing, didn't notice it, carelessness, kids did it, etc,etc = ALL beside the point and does not excuse it.

My point wasn't that I don't think it's damage. It clearly is, in my opinion, and it sucks. I go to ridiculous lengths to avoid the possibility of being either a dingee or a dinger.

My point was just that to many other people a ding is too minor an event to matter, either on the receiving end or (particularly, of course) the giving end. They don't care about dings on their automotive appliance. They never give their car a moment's thought until it needs gas or stops running altigether. These people WILL ding your car and must be avoided. The obvious is never to park next to a beater, but unfortunately kids in Mercedes can do just as much damage so it's impossible to predict.

The "height of arrogance" comment was not intended to underrate the importance or aggravation of dings. It was intended to calm the waters of rage that the original poster was stirring up with his self-righteous declaration of war on the Jeep. Given the possibility that that person was ding-blind, or as likely that a kid did it, the hood bashing-in was WAY out there perspective-wise.

As far as the dollar from your bank account is concerned, in the precise manner you describe, yes, it would be an actionable crime. Someone would have had to gain access to your account by nefarious means and that is not a good thing however many dollars are involved.

But imagine you own a roadside fruit and vegetable stand, with the typical piles of apples, oranges. peaches and other immediately edible items. Every so often, maybe several times a day, someone (usually a kid) walks by, grabs a piece of fruit and runs. Do you chase him? No, you have to stay at the stand. You could sic your attack dog on him though, even if only to stop him from running away. I mean hey, it was your property, and the guy blatantly stole it, right? So would you do it?

Neither would any right minded person.

There are thresholds of what really amounts to a "crime" and people usually have to make their own definitions of it at the lowest levels. Is $50 worth of fruit thefts a week an equivalent crime to door dinging? To some, yes. But you still don't let the dog loose.

This is why it was wrong to bash the Jeep in (which we agree on), and why it is unfortunately incumbent on US (in practical terms anyway) to insure our cars are safe from the possibility of damage.

Not that we have to necessarily just "take it", though. While it's somewhat complicated, I do like the approach of a recent poster here who carries a camera and takes pictures of these incidents, leaving notes and settling privately with the offenders after being WELL compensated. That's a VERY reasonable, creative solution. It puts the culprit dead to rights, and most people will not fight this kind of proof. They'll just pay up, as he's found.

Well maybe, maybe not. As I said, I know many people for whom these dings may as well be scuffs on their tennis shoes. They may or may not notice them, but in either case they shrug them off and forget about it. The fact that most of us here care so passionately about the issue doesn't make us unequivocally "right" about it. For a bashed in fender, definitely. For a door ding....it's not as black and white...

Believe it or not, there are actually a few people on this planet who are grown-up enough to deal with problems in a civilized fashion.

frostylfe,

To react to what was almost certainly an accident with deliberate vandalism is illegal, plain and simple.

Dent my G... I dent your face.. Nuff said...

Sounds like something I would have done.. Especially if I was 100 percent sure that the vehicle who did the crime was still parked next to me. And if the dude who did it acted like he didn't care when I would confront him I would simply beat his @$$ (if it was that simple depending on who did the dent..lol...) and be on my way cuz no one should deserve to do that to our babies....
