Someone recommended to me for my AT coupe, the K & N air filter. They told me it would raise horsepower, but it would also help save gas. Is this true? Also, does anyone know any other products to help save gas? If so, please let me know. Thanks.

To be quite honest . . . If you are concerned with the G35's gasoline consumption . . . Perhaps, you should be considering another less gas thirsty vehicle. Ultimately, this will afford you much less concern, if that is what you are worried about.

The difference in horsepower and in mileage could not be measured it would be so small.
As others have said if gas savings is your goal it would make more sense to look for another vehicle as there isn't much to do that would make any noticeable difference.

I think the person you talked to have fuel economy and fuel efficiency mixed up... mods can help you make better use of the fuel that you're burning, but I don't see how you're gonna get better milage...

EDIT: BTW, I get better mpg on the freeway with the G than I did in my Civic...

A civic will save you plenty of gas.

I read a real world test recently where variuos drivers took about 6 economy cars and drove them almost continuously in city and highway for about 3000 miles. The Civic beat out everything by a wide margin including the Corolla.

yes it will
to answer your question since everyone else utilizes this forum to showcase their sarcasm and wit (or lack of)

I recently heard the same thing so i changed my filter to an K&N before a long trip to see my parents.

I was blown away, the navi screen was reading at 28mpg, compared to the previous high for me around 24.2 on average on the highway.

my filter was dirty when i replaced it, but regardless my car has never shown that high of a reading

So the answer is yes, it will increase your fuel milage, but i dont notice a huge difference on my daily commute

since the engine is breathing better i think it utilizes the fuel better.

I think its so stupid if someone asks a question about fuel economy and immediately everyone says to go buy a civic, what a stupid answer....you can have a thirsty car and still increase the fuel economy, if not for your wallet but for the environment

so if someone asks about increasing horsepower are we going to start recommending people to buy a porsche?

I've got a K&N setup on mine and feel that I get pretty decent mileage, considering the available HP. Don't have a reference "before K&N" as I bought the car with the K&N already installed.

Since installing my AEM CAI I have been able to get up to 28MPG on the highway (on trips etc.) and never less than 19 at anytime (this is average over a full tank, I'm sure it drops very down low at times to get that 19 avearage... Those are the tanks I drive hard on.)

Before the CAI the best ever was 26 after 8K miles, before 6K miles the best was 24... They say this is normal as the VQ "breaks in"; I now have 35K and running great!

I get 27-28 mpg on the highway (at 75-80 mph, our speed limit is 75) and my coupe is completely stock.

Yeah, mine gets really great too... I didn't mention earlier the highway trip miles I traveled, I had a passeneger and luggage and I also cruise 80ish unless there is faster traffic, then I cruise with them.

a little trick i've used in my 14 second flat maxima was a "fuel saver" magnet. it's a ferrous magnet in a plastic casing that straps to the fuel line as close to the fuel injection as possible. everyone doubts this device, but it improves the mileage by about 1-2mpg and it's supposed to help the motor clean itself of hydrocarbons. i plan on adding them to all the household cars. plus, i think intake and exhaust mods lean out the motor for added efficiency.

interesting stuff..

the filter you talk about, K&N, how do you install it and is this the same filter that is changed at oil changes? Can you ask the dealer to put K&Ns?

Also I think G has one of the worst mileages, I use to get 14-14.5mpg in city driving, about 24 on higway and now about 17-19 mixed, depending if highway is less or if I have too many short off and on trips to shops etc..
