Strange sound when depressing clutch

Okay, I noticed some strange sound that wasn't there this afternoon when depressing my clutch. I'm worried.

Noon - Sounds normal
Evening - carwash + zaino
Night - started noticing strange sound btw it's damn cold tonight, coldest night since I had the G.

The sound sounds like a pop... very similar to that of when you crush a soda can. It can only be heard right before depressing the clutch(after the clutch play).

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me if this is normal so that I can sleep well tonight

Hmmm . . . I have some 8000 miles on my car and have not come across that sound. What is your G's mileage? For your own piece of mind, I would take it in if it continues.

Bring it in to get looked at. I'm on my second G (this one is a 05 6MT) and never had a popping sound like that. I did just have my dealer look at my tranny b/c I was getting a rattle from the tranny while driving and I could hear a bearing wurring sound when I had the clutch depressed standing still. The dealer compared it to three other G's and they all came back with the same sounds. They deemed it normal. I'm going to do some more research and see where it goes. It does not impair the operating of the tranny... we'll see.

I've replaced several clutches and for the life of me I can't think of anything in the clutch assembly that would make the sound you describe. Let's hope that when you take your car to the service department that it still makes that sound, because it's gonna be a tough one to diagnose. Please let us know what they discover.

how loud is the noise when you guys depress your clutches anyway? Do you hear sounds like springs? Cause I swear the sound of the springs or whatever my clutch makes is different from before.

A sound similar to the sound of springs depressing is not like the sound of a soda can being crushed. Could it be a more like a squeaking sound? If so don't be concerned. Check out your clutch pedal linkage or let your Dealer do it for you.

My '05 also sometimes exhibits this noise. The dealer said it was the clutch pedal spring binding. After unsucessfully trying an adjustment they replaced the clutch pedal. That *almost* eliminated the problem. I can still hear it sometimes but it's much less often and less noisy then with the original pedal.

When I start up my car and have the clutch depressed I hear nothing conspicuous. When I tug the stick into neutral and let out the clutch as I'm stationary, I hear the slight thunk of the clutch as it clamps while I'm out of gear.

Is is clamping at point is it not? Even though the vehicle is in N the clutch plate still engages, its just not transmitting anything through the gearbox.

Correct me or clarify if necessary!

Same here. If I turn off the car and have the clutch IN - I get a slight clunk-clunk. When I turn off the car and have it in N with the clutch OUT, I get a clunk-clank-clank sound that resembles preignition cackle. But its totally a mechanical sound.

I'm worried about the day that something goes flying off my clutch and completely destroys everything. Something just doesnt seem right. For $40K everything should be near-perfection!

Agreed! I have a 6MT and don't have that noise (yet). I park in a garage and with the echo, a clunk sound would be obvious. Thus a clunk sound is abnormal even if several other G's have a similar problem. If a manufacturing defect is in a lot of cars, it's still a manufacturing defect, one that needs a wide spread service alert.
