350z V G35 Horsepower.

Is it official that the G and the Z have the same amount of horsepower yet. I personally think it's a marketing ploy but I met a kid in my area that decided to "Brag" that his car has 7 more horsepower (as if 7 hp. means anything). I was just wondering if there is any prooof that the car actually has more.

Re: 350z V G35 Horsepower.

Dynoes I have seen have the G and Z about the same. The 7hp seems to be only on paper. Actually. after visiting my350Z.com, my stock 6MT G at 239rwhp/235rwtq dynoes higher than a good many 6MT Zs there...

I broke mine in very well so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it but it made me happy to see that.

Re: 350z V G35 Horsepower.

I raced a guy in a 6MT 350z in my 5at on Manumatic mode.. I barely beat him. Like most say you really really have to be a good Manny driver to beat an Auto version of virtually the same car. He said it was my Intake that made me win and was upset because he thought he was gonna smoke me... We raced 4 times and I won all 4. I got the Stillen Intake in my car and he said that made me win by half a car. I think it's the driver because he I noticed he dumped his car on too high of RPM's before taking off. I just held brake and gave gas till about 2200 RMP's and did an awesome launch on him which gave me the advantage and changed gears on manumatic mode every time it hit 6500 RPM's... After 3rd gear on my manumatic mode it was over... I guess he couldn't drive or thought he was driving a civic or something cuz he reved too hard. Was a nice race though, even though his Z is lighter then the G.Ohhhhh just wait till I get an exhaust system and some headers.. mmmm... gonna rip stuff up =)

I think it was your superior driving Cali. There should definietly be a HP difference at the rear wheels between our 5ATs and the 6MT 350 or G.

I also don't know how much faith I have in any of these intakes.

I do believe the brake horsepower rathing difference is a bunch of marketing junk.

Re: 350z V G35 Horsepower.

In the end, does it really matter what's written on paper? Theoretically, it could have 7 more peak horsepower, but 1 hp less along most of the curve. We'd never really know.

Take him to the track if you want to know whether he has a faster car. Otherwise who cares about a 7hp difference, unless you're racing on a Playstation.

Im sorry, I h8 to h8, but i dont think you can call it driving skills compairing an at driver to an mt. if it was mt vs mt or at vs at, i would say yes, it is all skill. if it is mt vs at and the at wins, i say that car manufacturers are finally making good trannies!

Re: 350z V G35 Horsepower.

numbers for numbers, the Z is faster. PERIOD. and i hate to admit it. i went to the track with some guys from my350z and they were consistently 2 to 3 tenths faster. but that is more a product of less weight.......

Doc

You have been weighed.....You have been measured.....and you have been found WANTING!!!

Re: 350z V G35 Horsepower.

One reason the Z is faster is because it is lighter that is why they are faster. I dont think is a marketing ploy but rather than a mistake. This is just like the Alitma and Maxima dyno incident. A couple of guy got their 2002 and 2003 Maxima and Alitmas dynoed and compared hp numbers and results were they both are getting about 240 at the engine. Of course this made so many Maxima owners mad and they wanted to file a law suit againts nissan for short changing the Maxima nissans flagship car. I just hope that Z owners wont get mad like the Maxima owners did.

Is your car stock Dr Rick? Are you sure those Z's you raced at the tracks were stock?

Re: 350z V G35 Horsepower.

I think some of the people that post on this forum need a reality check. I think the G35 is definitely a all around better car than the Z. I mean it has a nicer ride, the interior is nicer, and it looks just as good as the Z. But when it comes to performance, the Z definitely wins. Doesn't anyone here read car magazines. I have also taken my car to the track with a friend that has a Z and he consistantly beat my time by at least .3 seconds. Both of our cars are bone stock. We also switched cars and ran the quarter mile and the Z still was faster. And yes they are both 6MT.

Re: 350z V G35 Horsepower.

Every 100 pounds lost is supposed to decrease your quarter mile time by 0.1 seconds. The Z is around 200-300 pounds lighter than the G. It's around 0.2 to 0.3 seconds faster than the G. That would seem to answer the engine question. I suppose it could still have a few more hp from things like the non-sound-deadened intake duct, but it's clearly mostly the G's curb weight that's the difference. The 350Z convertible weighs a small amount more than the G. Care to guess which will be faster?
