Gotta vent (some complaints)

Love the G and this is the first time I've really found a major complaint about the car.

Washing the car this morning and I have some of those Microfiber Magic Mitts and for those who aren't familiar with them they are like thick strings weaved into the mitt. Well ever since I've used them they seem to catch every corner of the car when I wash it. Where it's really a problem is the back end where the lettering is. OK now I know there are a lot of people who dig the debadging thing but now I wish Infiniti had went with something stronger to keep the letters on. When I wash the car the mitt catches on every letter. But this time I'm going over the "G35" part and when I pull away the 5 is in my mitt. So of course I'm freaking and immediately stick it back on. It appears to be holding but I'm kind of upset that these things can be pulled off with so little effort (in my opinon it's little effort).

Those letters just don't seem like they are going to last a long time without them loosening up quite a bit. I think they should either go with something a little more sturdy or just get rid of those types of badges.

Also just to add to my frustration is that I found some scratches on the back end right under the INFINITI lettering. I had found a long light scratch parallel to the ground a week ago. It seemed like maybe it was created by a pen or maybe a toy rubbed on the car. But I found 2 more scratches while washing the car. I would say they are about an 1/16th of an inch wide and fairly deep into the skin. I thought it was glue at first because it was white colored and I have a black G. But after scrubbing I saw it wasnt coming out.

I looks like some kind of tool or device that somebody dug into the car. Becasue it goes from the trunk and continues onto the lip right below the trunk. They are parallel lines but the left one is thicker than the right one. But they are too straight for it to be a key.

Neway I'm pissed right now and I kind of went off on my wife about it to see if she knew anything. She really irritated me when I showed it to her and then she comes back with this bit of insight, "Wow those are some deep scratches! It looks like somebody used a tool or something." I was like no $#it genius. You got any more nuggets to add..........

3 things that seem to pop out from this thread:

1) You must scrub REALLY hard...you may very well have incidentally scratched your own car with the way you apparently scrub.

2) You have a very short temper, considering you made this relatively long thread about something that really isn't a big deal. I get scratches all the time (i.e. hood scratches on a black car), plus I think the rear looks better without the "G35" label on it. Be optimistic about your situation. Just think of it as a mod in "debadging" your car.

3) I feel sorry for your wife.

All I can offer is to check the detailing section of this site, or Autopia.org for tips on properly washing your car and/or removing the scratches.

Thank you for your concern.

1. I am going to load pictures and see if you think these are scrub marks. I can't wait for your opinion.

2. I think they are big deal. If you don't then I will congratulate you on your short temper if you ever have the good luck to get your scratched. I also don't think the car looks better without the label on it. And if I did I would be by my choice and not because the glue was weak.

3. You're a real sensitive guy. Let's hug..........

I'm still trying to figure why you have a complaint about the car. These are either something you did to your own car or something someone else did. Why is that a fault of the car?

The complaint is about the badges. They are held on by just some glue. The 5 came off when I was washing the car. I think that they should be on with something stronger than glue.

These are the mitts I'm talking about. They are like loops and they catch on the corners of the badges of the car.

The venting is about the scratches I discovered at the same time that the 5 came off the car...........

Couple things - one, ya it's weird the 5 came off, when I debadged my first G it was pretty tough to remove them using a blow dryer and floss. I can't imagine one popping off, but obviously it happens. I'd have it re-attached by the dealer, no biggy I guess.

Second - those scratches were caused by something that isn't that mitt, obviously. Looks like something got dragged across the paint. They're to the primer, so you'll need to have them touched up/wetsanded/polished. A good detailer can do it - looks like you have some washing induced swirls there too, so a polish is a good idea anyway.

Third - this is just imo, but I don't like microfiber wash mitts. I use mf for everything *but* washing. Why? mf is designed to trap particulates and water, which is why it's so good for drying and buffing - but that works against it when washing. If you get dirt in the mitt it will cause micro-marring, which is likely how you got those swirls marks (not the scratches, the swirls). You might consider a couple sheep-skin mitts or something. Just a suggestions, everyone has their preference of course.

That mitt doesn't look like any sort of micro-fiber I've seen but I'm also not an expert. The scratches look very much like some my sister engraved into my paint by placing a cardboard carton on the trunk lid and dragging it a little bit when she lifted it. I couldn't believe a carton could do so much damage. Be happy the badge isn't held on by a couple of screws that go through the sheet metal.

Well I agree with you guys that these mitts are going in the trash. I hadn't been impressed with them but I had a 5 pack so I thought I might as well use them. But I am going to try the sheepskin or something else.

I'm not saying I have a better idea about how to hold the badges and I agree that screwing them in would be too extreme. But I was just surprised when I'm washing the car and I turn over my mitt and my 5 badge is sitting in my mitt.......

i think that scratch was made when you or your wife closed the trunk
lid with the key in your hand...

that would give you verticle scratches along with the scratch
down into the bumper.

that's a pretty bad scratch, but you should touch it up and wetsand it.
should be undetectable if you do it right.
