Any trick to the dipstick?

OMG I check the oil level for the first time today and noticed that the dipstick is a PITA to put back in. Not only the dipstick was flimsy, there is a bunch of stuff in the way of the dipstick. What was infiniti thinking

Yeah, I noticed that too. You need a good light source to help guide it back in. Also, I don't know if it's the material used for the dipstick, but it seems hard to get a good reading too.

Re: Any trick to the dipstick?

I can only think of one reason. Usually high performance car have those type of dip stick. The reason is that when the car is being push, there is high pressue within the engine. That can cause the dip stick to pop and oil being release. This happen to my 92 Eagle Talon. That car had upgrade turbo and when i push the car one time, the dipstick came off and splatter the oil on the engine. I had to buy a 2 dollars home depot mod just to secure the dip stick.

Re: Any trick to the dipstick?

I learned a trick: when you are putting the stick back in, guide the tip into the hole, and start pushing the stick in, but when you do that, wiggle your hand very quickly like you are turning the key to turn on your car, but not full hand rotations, just a little bit of a wiggle...do it fast enough just right and the dipstick goes in easy. Keep doing untill the stick is almost all the way in.

Hi Mosy...absolutely correct...A little wiggle and jiggle once the tip is in and it's a push to the left and down she go's. Do use flashlight...it's easier to see the orientation of the tip.

Re: Any trick to the dipstick?

I didn't have too much trouble getting the dipstick back in with a little wiggling. My problem is that getting an accurate reading of the oil level is all but impossible, especially with relatively clean oil.
