Just Installed Strup Headers & Borla Exhaust

Overall, I am very happy with the results. The car seems to pull harder with a great sound. The rpms seem to climb faster as well. The install was damn near impossible on the headers, even with a lift, due to very limited access. Unless you have amazing patience, just pay someone to do it. Ill try to post some pics I took in the near future once I get them on my computer. Ill also post a dyno on the results when I get them.

The only issue now is that I am getting a weird rattle noise from about 500-1200 RPM in 1st and 2nd gear coming form the exhaust. Its very loud and seems to be getting worse. Has anyone experienced anything like this from the Borla Exhaust?? Could it be a leak, or is the exhaust just rubbing on something under the car? I have done searches, but no one seems to have had a similar problem. Please let me know if you have any information on what I should look for, or what the problem might be. Thanks for your help guys.

Your exhaust probably got knocked loose during the header install. Because the Borla has so many pieces to mess with, I'm willing to bet this is the case.

I have the Borla, but haven't experienced the rattling issues that some have.

Your borla is probably rubbing against something. I had the rattle too and had to have one of my pipes rotated a little.

Check the rear pipe on the passenger side that goes over the sway bar and see if you have enough clearance. Thats were my rattle was...

i have the injen.........but i had a rattle and it was the exhaust hitting the cross member......i loosened everything up from the cat back....used a 1-1/2 inch spacer (the handle from my floor jack) wedged it between the cross member and the exhaust pipes before tightening everything up....did the trick for me

Your definitely rubbing on something - and likely getting some resonance through the Borla since the header install - making it worse. Put it up in the air and look for wear areas on the cross member or at the passenger rear hangers.

Thanks for the input guys. I think your right, it seems to be rubbing near the rear of the exhaust, possibly the borla muffler on the underbody of the car. Ill lift it and take a look.

Congrats on the install. I love the Borla, and bet it's that much better with the headers.
The rattle is in the system somewhere. You'll need to raise the car on a drive-on hoist to see where it's banging.

Dude..

The same exact thing happened to me.

I already had a Borla exhaust and 1 week ago I added Strup headers and Crawford cats. BTW I know what you mean on the install. I also had a bad rattle under low acceleration. I took it to a local muffler shop and it was determined to be the exhaust rubbing up against the, excuse my lack of mechanical terms, metal cross bar towards the back half of the car. The muffler shop heated up the exhaust and bend it slightly, now no rattle at all. I'm very pleased.

Mine had a rattle also....check for clearance where the black steel crossmember is under the car...where the rear quarter panels are....the pipes may be too low and it may not look like its touching but once the car is in gear it rattle on take off and maybe reverse...

thats where mine was touching...

its probably comming from the collecters on the headers. ive had the same issue with many different cars and it always happened when i put headers on but if it is the collecters then theres nothing you can reallly do to fix it.

Nice set up. Good luck with the fixes. We'll be interested to read about your power gains.
