Brake dust- brake pad suggestions??

My '04 coupe puts out some serious brake dust- especially in front. Now they're squeaking, too!! - dealer says I've got 4mm-5mm left (not enough wear to replace under warranty) I've got the 18 in alloys- I no sooner wash it and pull it into the garage and they're dusty again...

I'm coming up on 40k and ready to trash the OEM pads and go with new- any suggestions on pads that don't dust as bad (or squeak), but perform ok?

Oh, and for those who might be looking for a "washing" solution to this dust problem- I've tried them all- Wheel Wax, polymer sprays, rinses, you name it- nothing worked. The ONLY thing that that kept my wheels dust-free- leaving it parked in the garage!

Any pad and/or rotor recommendations would be appreciated...

I use Green Stuff low dust pads on the fronts, I have Brembos.
They cut the dust by 75 percent!

Tons of great info burried in here; just takes a little patience to find it sometimes.

I had an '02 Audi TTR and it was impopssible to keep the wheels clean because they would be covered with brake dust the moment I drove the car a few miles. The brakes on my '05 G35C on the other hand throw off almost no brake dust. It's great driving a car that has clean wheels. My TT easily gave off more brake dust in one day than my G35 does in two weeks.

I have an 04 to and had the same problems.....the brake dust was horrible and started to peel away at my rims......so i went out and bought new brake pads.....i would either go with cyramic or carbon like i did.....i have not had any break dust in more than 4 weeks.....before, after i washed my car there would be brake dust in 3 days.....makes a world of difference

While I don’t have a G yet, I used to feel you pain about brake dust with my current car. Do yourself a favor, and buy a set of ceramic brake pads. They’re a little more expensive then carbon metallic pads, but the bake dust is easily cut down by 80%. Plus, what little residue they do leave behind seems to be less abrasive and wipes off rims with little effort. It seriously is a world of difference. Also, they cut way down on brake squeal because of the lack of metal partials, which is another bonus. I don’t know what it is about import cars, but they seem to put the worst brake pads on their cars. I constantly see BWM's, Silver stars, Audis, ect. that are gleaming clean, but look like someone spray painted the front rims black because of crappy brake pads.

This is my first post, so i hope it works out for you. Good luck.

Another suggestion that costs about $15 and takes 10 minutes - get some brake dust repellant/wheel sealant, or even just put a coat of regular car waz on the wheels. You'll be amazed at how much less dust sticks to the wheels and how much easier the stuff that does is to clean off.
