Lights off is a good way to do donuts if you're trying to avoid drawing police attention to yourself. That's usually what I do(lights off) when I do my 2 hour donut/drift sessions in the winter with my 240SX in the huge 1/2 mile parking lot near my house.

I just had some fun in my 5AT last night when it rained. Met up with some 240's and they set up cones in a large parking lot to drift. I got a ride and... WOW!! That is the coolest feeling I've ever had in a car [..well....umm..] Anyway, these guys were really good and it was insane how well they could even control it on the wet pavement. When I went out to to a donut or two I turned the VDC off, put it in 1 and went slowly at 1st then floored it and turned, did a nice one... And as always, the wet helped out.
Did you have an LSD? Looked like only one wheel was really working. I just got the rear end put in from my friends 6Spd so both wheel will work now. I've never been able to do better "u-turn slides" - it rocks for drifting around lol.
