Unfortunately I fall into the 3+ category. You should have made a 5+ selection, I would still have fallen into that one .

I have a hardwired V1 with remote display, but never got a speeding ticket while cruising with it, but that doesn't give me the freedom to speed either. I use my V1 to keep my speed in check, and let me know if cops are around, which allows me to try to obey other traffic laws. Radar detector or not, if a police officer wants to pull you over, they will.

i have a escort 8500, i love it it works exellent, saved me many times! but if i had the money i may go with somthing that could be built in to the car, k40 or a little less expensive the V1 in the rearview mirror, but if u want somthing that u could take from car to car then i think that the 8500 is exellent!!! i'v heard that the v1 is really good too but i personally like the 8500, probally bc i own one..... btw i went to the store where i bought it and said "give me the best radar detector you have" and he handed me that one...

I have a V1 - latest version. I LOVE IT!!! Saved my *** at least 10 times in the past month.

Hardwired it and hid the power line along the pillar and roof lining. Tapped into an accesory wire near the dead pedal.

Best 400 bucks I've ever spent.

0 before and 0 after getting radar detector.

Got it in time before I knew my luck would run out. Admittingly, while this probably isnt good: I do speed a little more than I should since I rely on this thing a lot since I got it.. but I can name about 3 or 4 times where it has absolutely saved my *** from getting a nice big speeding ticket.

I dont really speed too much...usually no more than 10 over and following the flow of traffic but I have a V1 and I love it. I had a Bel 980 before and it was also very good. I would look at the Escort 8500 or the V1...more so the V1 if you truly want the best...the performance of both of them are probably almost identical but the arrows gives it a slight edge so if money isn't a issue...I'd go V1.

All of my speeding tickets in the past 10 years or so have been VASCAR and a couple instant on style so a detector would not have done me any good. I live in MD where both county and state do a fine job! Now that I think about it VA and DC aren't too far behind.

Long trips 7 over or a faster 18 wheeler, locally no left lane and flow of traffic with a good burst every now and then.

Escort 8500 X50

It has saved my butt several times.

Don't listen to people who say "radar detectors only let you know you are busted". because they simply do not know how to use them.

Radar is dirty, it bounces off of everything and goes all over the place. It's easy to detect it from miles away. The only time you'll get nailed while using a detector is if it's lazer or you are the ONLY person on the road for a couple miles. If a cop is hitting people in front/behind you, instant-on or not, a quality detector WILL detect it. Then it's up to you to pay attention and avoid getting caught speeding.

I've never been busted using a detector, yet it's saved me numerous tickets over the 10 years I've been using one. Even when they are not aiming the radar at you, it's nice to know when they are around. Quite a few LEO vehicles around the southwest have built in front/rear guns and drive around with them on all the time.

Radar Roy @ www.RadarBusters.com knows his ****. He's an X-Cop with 20 years on the job. Good site to poke around, LOTS of information there. If you are shopping around, or THINK you know a lot about this stuff, spend a little time on the website, I'm sure you'll learn a thing or two....
