Recall4autos/ringing noise right rear

I went to my dealer because I hear a ringin, bell-like metallic noise every now and then from the right rear. He thinks it is the heat shield or exhaust. Hmm...
Dealer says brake release switch is recall item....if you put foot on brake and in park, sometimes park will not release, rare and will replace next time I am in

i think this ringing noise is the "ratcheting noise" in the right rear I have found on several posts....Anyone else with noise at roll off early in day in right rear? What is this half-shaft nut that needs tightening????

Re: Recall4autos/ringing noise right rear

Hmmm, I was told that the brake light recall is due to the fact that the dash light will not come on sometimes whenever the parking brake is applied.

But on a side note, if your talking about the shift lock not disengaging when you push the break in (on autos), this is strange. I say this because this was a problem for Maxima's as well. There are a few TSB's for this issue. My dad's 95 Max still has this problem. On hot days, he has to start the car up and run the AC. Once the interior starts to cool down, the shift-lock will disengage properly. I'm interested in seeing if this becomes a bigger problem in the auto Gs.

Re: Recall4autos/ringing noise right rear

I occasionally have the same problem with releasing Park with my foot on the brake. Sometimes it takes 2 or three tries. I thought it was just a characteristic of the car. I just had my car in for service but I did not even think of mentioning it.
The Dealer did tell me none of the recalls applied to my cars vin#, including the brake switch recall.

You're both wrong -- brake switch recall is related to rear brake lights failing to light up when you step on the brake pedal & could lead to someone rear-ending your car. See here for details:

Re: Recall4autos/ringing noise right rear

G35TR & gsg, In case you don't know, there's a 'shift-lock' release in our G's. I'm not sure about the older Maximas, but there was one on my 2k2 Max).
The small trunk tool (see pic) has a skinny end on it for this purpose.
All you do is pry out the shift-lock release cover beside the A/T shifter and push in the tool against a spring to release the shifter.
Not sure if you'd seen this in the O/manual, but didn't want anyone to get stuck because of a faulty shift-lock release.
Take care.

Re: Recall4autos/ringing noise right rear

I called dealer in Tustin, Callifornia :
He said basically the parking brake does not release shift lever....but is very rare... He said if it occurs to just stick your toes under the brake pedal and pull it up and the shift will release.
