Since the current 3.5 liter G35 engine is tuned out of its mind for a stock car already I would imagine Nissan will change the engine entirely for the new design. Despite a lot of people hoping I highly doubt there will be a V8 option (ie g45) and it will most definitely have a V6 engine. But which one? My friend has a 2005 nissan frontier with a 4.0 liter V6 that can fly (265 hp, 285 ft-lb trq). I was thinking maybe they drop that engine in there, tune it for a sports car and call it a G40? They could probably get that engine up to 320 hp... who knows. This was just a thought and maybe im wrong but i dont think im wrong on the whole not having a V8. Feedback?

The I6 was a long engine. Looking at our engine compartment in this midship platform, I don't think it will fit. My dad's old 280zx has a longer hood and engine compartment then the G. I think it will take a huge rework of the frame.

I'm pretty sure that Nissan doesn't have any Inline-configuration engines in their lineup right now that aren't 4-cylinders(Neither in Japan or any other country).

Nissan also tends to reuse a lot of their engine blocks across the board in several of their different vehicles, and although they didn't reuse the RB engine in any other cars that I'm immediately aware of... I'm pretty sure that they were planning on going with some form of a boosted VQ engine for the Skyline GTR.... which would basicly rule out the idea of them building a whole new Inline 6-cylinder engine strictly for the new G35(Especially since the GTR > G35).

I would, however, love to have a Nissan I-6 in my car... because those engines are historically marvelous(Hell.... even Ford managed to make a good one, that they use in their F-150's).

Its likely just going to be a VQ with the same displacement and more horsepower or a higher displacement VQ with more power. Either way the horsepower will be higher than the IS350

To me I'm less concerned with the performance of the motor than I am the weight of the car. Keep the current drivetrain and drop 250 pounds. The car would be a beast.

Good point. That's like picking up 20-25hp.

250 pounds is a lot of trimming. That won't happen unless the price jumps up a lot for our car. Light components cost a lot of money, and Infiniti would be unwise to sacrifice luxury options in order to shed weight in the G35(lack of leather, no Nav, no stereo or at least a less robust one, thinner seats, less sound deadening... all of which will probably get you more interior rattles). That cars role is currently being filled by the 350Z.

Lighter rims would be nice(expensive though). Sunroof delete would also save weight, and we certainly wouldn't want them to try to lighten the frame much due to the inherent loss of structural integrity... barring a switch to a lighter frame material($$ -> +++++). Our hoods seem pretty light, so i'm not sure how much weight would be saved with a carbon fiber one($$, again).

The Battery being moved to the trunk would be cool, and help balance out the weight a bit more(but that generally doesn't bode well with the luxury car owners... battery acid potentially building up in the trunk near your cargo and directly above the gas tank).

Of course.. if you really want to save weight, you could always drive around with your gas tank close to empty...

Or if you're really hardcore go on a diet yourself and get down to 3% body fat.

I honestly have no idea, but I think the new 4.0 could be a possibility. My wife and I just bought a new Pathfinder and I must say the thing has got some punch even for an SUV. I have no idea if the thing is tuned to the hilt like the 3.5 but, a big plus for the 4.0 is also 290 lfb torque. I think the 3.5 is amazing for it's size and I personally hope they keep it. Think about it 3.5 liters 298 HP (for example) Vs. the new Z06 7.0 liters 505 HP. Do the math IMHO opinion Nissan just needs to add boost of some sort to the 3.5. Just my .2

I would like to see an I-6, but I am sure it will never happen. BMW is the only one left using one in a car, and now they are making the M3 a V8. I would rather have the I-6. Better balance, longer life, more torque.

I think a 4.0 six will be in the car. I am waiting to see what to do with my 04 until this new style comes out.

I would think they could add a few more things to improve the 3.5 such as direct injection and cylinder deactivation. That has worked for other manufacturers to improve output and efficiency.
