Need advice for a friend. long

Well my best friend has a G35 coupe same year and model as mine. He's put a exhaust springs and a 350z intake along with a JWT filter. His tranny has been making a TON of noise! He took it in and they told him he is ricky racer and the car has been hot rodded.lol He drives the car like a grandma! He told the service guy that the car has not been driven hard at all and he paid them for a extended waranty and wants the problem fixed. They said they would check it out. At the sametime he paid for a service, oil change. He went to pick the car up and they said that the tranny is normal, lol They went back and forth and in the end they wouldnt do anything. A few weeks have passed and the car is leaking oil pretty bad. He just noticed it. I told him to take the car in because Im sure they didnt tighten the drain plug or filter. He took it back to them today and they put it up on a lift. They came back and said everything is ok that they touched. BUT with all that aftermarket stuff on the car it could be anything. They said that there is a lot of oil on the block but because of his mods they cant see whats going on. LOL HE doesnt really have any mods!!! He was like WTF are you talking about theres really nothing on the car! And sures the hell nothing that would cause a oil leak!! He said he paid for the extended waranty and wants the car fixed! They said well we'll take a look at it but were going to have to charge you a hour to remove ALL the aftermarket stuff!! HAHAHAHAHAHA this **** is a joke!! He said Im not paying and they went back and forth. Hes taking it in next week and Im going with him to tell these arseholes about the VQ and that NONE of his mods have anything to do with oil. What recorse do we have? Any suggestions would be great!

Steve,

If possible, have your friend call Infiniti Of Oakland. They are quite mod friendly. I have been there once myself. The service was excellent. I spoke to one of the service advisors and they have worked on a few G's, which were modded out with no issues. Good luck!

Cool

I would deffinately try another dealership.

I have the same problem with my closest Infiniti dealer....they are NOT mod friendly at all.

I went by and asked if they would raise my idle with the Consult program.

They took one look at my Vortech and actually said "We really don't like to work on cars that have been that highly modified"......

WTF??

I went to my local Nissan dealership and they said "no problem" and did it on the spot!

I am a service advisor at a Nissan dealer. If the mods are not causing the problem then they have to still honor the warranty. He can call consumer affairs. i am not sure on the phone number for Infiniti, but I am sure Nissan consumer affairs can give it to him 1-800-NISSAN-1. Also, have him look up the Magnussen-Moss warranty act.

Thanks guys. As a lot of you know Im sure I could figure his problem out in no time at all. BUT I just think its the dealers job to take care of him. He did pay for this waranty,2000.00. The dealership is in Rosevile Ca. I know someone in elk grove that in the end will take care of him if Rosevile does not. I just think its nuts for them to call what he has mods. The Z tube is off a Z! There is nothing on the car that he has touched that could cause oil to leak! I would almost bet that when they changed the oil they forgot a crush washer. Maybe Ill print out the Magnussen-Moss warranty act so they can take a look at it! BTW thanks for the # Im sure he will be giving them a call.

Could try another dealership. Some dealers are not mod friendly.

Stories like this get me really heated!

I hate dealing with incompetent service advisors. I would suggest he speak directly with a tech.

that crap doesn't work. i'm referring to infiniti consumer affairs. they aren't worth a damn. tried them. if you're interested, a thread in the southeast forum titled 'infiniti of raleigh/key fob issues'.
i have no faith in infiniti dealers' compentency, either what the techs are required to know, the training for the service advisors, or the oversight of the service managers. after hearing all of the stories here, as well as my own experiences with three different dealers.

tommy boy said it right "if you want me to s*** in a box, and mark it guaranteed, i will, i've got time, if you want a quality part," etc...

you can slap a warranty on anything... doesn't make it any better of a part... and if you give the company an inch, they will make every attempt to steal a mile.

just think, even if this time they fix it, how many other people will have to pay for this? they are no better than a scamming telemarketer...

excuse the rant... good luck. please let us know how this goes.

always catch more flies with honey. but every now and then, when required, use fly paper.

i was in a similar situation a little while back. My engine was consuming massive amounts of oil, and went through all the diagnostics tests at infiniti of marin. They told me i abused my car and if upon teardown they find any signs of abuse i will have to pay $3k for labor to have it put back together with the same problem or pay more for a new vq. Not only that pissed me off but they were complete *******s the whole time.
Anyways i called up Infiniti of Oakland to see how they felt about the situation. Spent 20 minutes on the phone with John and brought my car in later that week. They ran the same tests (compression, leakdown, oil consumption) and told me there was an obvious problem. They gave me an 05 sedan, which ive had for the past couple months.
Anyways its been a while due to japanese engineers flying over to inspect and teardown my vq and most recently ups of fedex delivered a fcked up shortblock, so a new one must be shipped. But other than missing my car for 2 months, they have been great with everything. Dean the service manager and John service advisor are two of the coolest guys ive met , and suprisingly dont judge because of my age. BTW I had mods on my car, and they didnt give a ****. Give John a call and tell him charlie sent you, he will take good care of your buddy. good luck bro.

I highly recommend Infiniti of Elk Grove. Their service staff is top notch. We just bought a 2005 6MT from them and have brought the car in twice for service now and it's been a pleasure each time.

Steve, have you tried barber group here near me, they worked on my car and actually made a real nice comment on my Vortech, they did my axle recall and did not make any excuses about any of the mods I have whereas I have heard other stories from other dealerships about trying to get out of the rear clicking noise even with the TSB out there.
