Insurance: Looking for the best deal

Hey Guys,
Just got my quote from geico.com, $1100 for 6 months.
Is it way too much compared to what you guys pay?
I have no idea. I've been living in the US for 2 years now and only had own and insured a car for a short time (about 8 month with no accident or speed ticket). I don't currently have a car b/c I had been traveling every week for my work and renting cars for about 1 year and a half.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Insurance: Looking for the best deal

It is such a variety of factors, it really varies so greatly. It depends on you're location, your coverage type, your age, your gender, your driving record and now, it even depends on your credit report.

It's best just to shop around and get quotes from everyone.

Re: Insurance: Looking for the best deal

I feel like I'm getting a pretty good deal then! Of course this is for full coverage, 300K/100K, towing and rental car included and I'm accident free, ticket free, etc.

I better hadn't tell my agent what a good deal I'm getting...

My quote from Geico was about 970 for 6 months. That includes my 95 Explorer and both of us driving. It helps that we're both over 25 and are clean for the last 5 years.

Re: Insurance: Looking for the best deal

Damn dude your getting ripped off with StateFarm.

I don't have my car yet, but they quoted me
Roughly $2300 for a G35C for 1 year.
50k/100k, Full coverage 500/250 comprehensive/collison. and etc....
Thats with 1 accident in San Francisco, CA.
The most expensive place in the US for car insurance.

You better hit up State Farm and read your premium carefuly.

Re: Insurance: Looking for the best deal

Isn't NJ the most expensive place in the US for auto insurance?

Re: Insurance: Looking for the best deal

Ohhhh.. PLEASE! I live in the most expensive place probably in the USA to insure a care. I live in las vegas. Where the Pedestrian Fatality Rate Is higher then anyone, even NY.

My insurance thru state farm, clean record, no tickets. is about 245$ a month. This is not a bad price for this area too, I am getting a good price. I cannot wait till I turn 25. It was cheaper before, but I moved into the Valley out from the Mountains. Yes people do drive that bad here. Everyone but me I know has been in at least one accident in the last 5 years. I am pretty much just waiting my turn and regretting not getting the Gap Insurance.

(BTW I own the Sedan not the Coupe)

Re: Insurance: Looking for the best deal

Were you saying that I'm getting ripped off at $319/6mor ($638/yr) or someone else? The reply came to me in email so I wasn't sure if you were talking to me. My coverage is full coverage, comprehensive, collision, liability, towing, rental car, the works. Limits are 300K/100K, so a little lower than your 500K/250K but honestly I think I'm fine with 300K/100K, especially in my neck of the woods. Deductibles are $250 comp and $500 collision. I checked with AllState but they were a couple hundred dollars a year higher, any time I've ever checked Geico in the past they've always been a lot higher.

Anyway, I'll have to read this thread and see if you are talking to someone else, the $2300 a year you quoted in your message seems INSANE to me, in a few years you could buy yourself a really nice 2nd car... Insurance on my Porsche isn't that high...

Re: Insurance: Looking for the best deal

Actually I remember reading in the paper a little while back that Washington D.C. Was #1 and NJ was #2. Las Vegas? I know someone that lives there, my rates are 3 times more and i'm in NJ. BTW he has a SVT Convertible cobra and I have a G35C.

Re: Insurance: Looking for the best deal

That is Listed by State and not by City though. I read the Same thing. Some states have more then one city and it throws it WAY off balance. I was corrected by my State Farm Agent (I love them). Vegas isn't the most expensive but is in the Top 10. The Area Code I live in is one of the most Expensive AREA codes in the USA! (I live in Spring Valley which is one of the more densly populated parts of Vegas) Not number 1, not even really in the top 10 but really up there. I was told LA is the most expensive Metro to insure in.

So I went looking for a list and found this. Yeap there is alot of NY and NJ cities on it.

Re: Insurance: Looking for the best deal

Also reasons for the cost. Alot of people densly packed (Vegas has over 1.5 million people living here it's close to 1.85 now. and will be bigger then phoenix by 2030 at the current growth, so we will be in the top 10 for size soon :P) If you ever visit vegas. It's a freaking open desert but people insist on living withing 10 feet of eachother. It's house house house.. DESERT. Something to do with the BLM and stuff.

More sad then that though is, the drunk driving rate. It's been estimated that on any given friday or saturday night that 1 out of every 4 drivers are over the legal limit here (NOTE: Not drunk, but over the legal BAC). You sorta after a few years get use to Californians going down I-15 at 100MPH with no idea what a lane is. But I wouldn't trade this city for ANY other.

(OK NOW I WILL SHUT UP, sorry for my rant :P Gotta defend the horribleness of my city :P)

Re: Insurance: Looking for the best deal

Haha, lets not get into an arguement about how crappy our city/states are. BTW, I was in vegas for a week a month ago. Your drivers are definatly better drivers than ours in Jersey. Every day here I have at least one moron that almost sideswipes me and or cuts me off and almost causes an accident. I swear it happens daily. The fact that it never rains there also means less accidents, when it rains here people drive like they have never seen rain before. Argh, I gotta move out of this state! Henderson, NV here I come! (If I could find a job there, I would.)
