if i need to get somewhere someitme soon, 4.5

when im cruising with my friends m coupe... 6.5-redline

when im on side streets i get into 6th fairly quickly and just leave it at 2k or so

 

I know some do get over 25mpg on gas,I can't even keep 20MPG on a consistent basis... If i can just break that bad habbit i got from Honda engine(High Rev Engines)... it will defenitely save me some $$$$. Is there a Rehab for drivers how's addicted to shifting late??? i really need to check my self in!!

 

I usually shift around 4k. It's more fun for me, but mainly it doesnt feel as slugish when I switch to next gear as it starts out at a higher point then if I switched at lets say 2k or 3k.

 

If anybody has some high resolution whp vs. RPM data for a stock '05-'06 (and an '03-'04 if you'd like) I can run some detailed ideal shift-point calculations that take in to account drag, if you're interested.

 

3K-4K ususally unless I'm gunning down an onramp. Where else can you go wide open and not really have to worry?

 

Seems as if most are the same (myself included)......around 3k for normal stuff - and 4k + for "spirited Driving"


My question is (not a hi-jack) Waht RPM's do you launch at for a "race"???

I usually go around 4500 or so then redline every other gear.....

Its tough to lay off that gas pedal though when ur sitting next to another car revving its engine.....but 4300-4500 is ideal for me it seems....

 

For me...anywhere between 3-4 rpms. If I really take off 4-5, depending.

 

For daily driving about 2-2.5 k. For more spirited driving around 4-5k. A few times a week I wind it out to redline in a number of the gears.

So many shift above 2500 normally, and some even around 4000, no wonder the G is infamous for bad mileage... That is in a high range on the power band and there is no need for it, but I know it's fun. I'm just wondering if many people just became accustome to this and it is habit, or if they do it for fun or what...
I can't see the point in shifting anywhere above 2500 RPM's if there are cars in front of me cruising, even from the line because I surely can keep up with them; turning more revs between shifts only does that, turns higher revs , for no real reason (except sometimes I like to hear the exhaust).

If i'm driving spiritedly or need extra oomph for a little bit (like getting onto a freeway), I'll rev it out past 6500, but anyone else get that tingly feeling like the engine sounds like it's gonna blow or take off? I'm just still not used to having the sound of 6 cylinders rev up in those ranges....

 

This is why you don't understand... You stay behind or even with traffic and even mention that you can keep up with them. I like to stay ahead of traffic and let them(you) keep up with me if they choose to. lol I think I shift around 4k from habbit of listing to the motor and knowing the rev limit. To me the engine sounds like it needs to shift around 3.5k .Also some confusion may be the fact that the 4.5 and 05's rev higher then the first coups. Just mt 2 cents though.
