Carpet Pops (Under Brake Pedal)

My carpet has this little pop going on right around the brake pedal.. So whenever you move your foot, you hear a nice pop..
It sounds extremely sexy, and therefore I took it to the dealer (Which I bought the car from a month ago).. And they showed me another G35 (brand new) that does the same exact thing..
How common is this? and are we expected to get used to it?

Plus let me know how much it irritates you when the mechanic tells you that he doesn't see anything wrong.. I just love it when somebody says that its 'perfectly ok' for something I never encountered in any of the cars that I drove before

I haven't noticed the popping noise you mention which could be because I have either the factory floor mats or the all weather mats covering that area. The carpets on the G are backed with a plastic type covering which makes them virtually waterproof. This construction probably contributes to the sound you're hearing since it's less flexible and may have a kind buckle somewhere.

I'm with you big time on the tech or service writer saying something is okay or normal when it really isn't. They're trained to diminish the problems people have and sometimes mistake genuine issues for the trivial ones.

Hey, this is actually a funny post cause when I got my coupe a couple months ago, I actually brought it to the dealer for the same problem.

The tech said that it was common in all G coupes. I didnt believe him and made them show me 3 new coupes on their lot, and much to my surprise, they all had the same problem.

I wouldnt worry about it too much. My carpet has settled since I bought it and now the noise is gone. Just give it some time to "break in".

Hopefully mine will get better as well...

I wanted to punch that technician when he was pushing the carpet (and it was popping) and turning his head back at me and saying "So?? I don't see a problem here"
It was a great moment, and I'm glad we are not permitted to hurt people at will without consequences by law

i don't have this 'pop' noise ... then again i have the infiniti winter matts on top of my carpeted one's. that could be a simple solution for u. plus it'll keep your carpeted one's looking brand spankin' new.

Giddyup, Infiniti states not to do that. There is a safety issue with the hold down clamp being able to keep both mats in place. As well there is strong potential for your gas pedal getting stuck down because of the raised height of the two mats. Believe me I learned this the hard way on a WOT stint on a very twisty low speed road and had to turn off the key to save my skin. The rev limiter saved the engine.
Please take the carpet mat out from under the driver side. I don't want to see an accident with one of our G bros.

Damn, that's got to be a bad feeling when you lift your foot and the accelerator pedal stays down. Glad you could get it under control.

I've got the popping noise too.

It's sad, but when a dealer mechanic says "it's normal", they mean, "it will take too much of my time to track that down and fix it." As long as it is safe to let you drive down the road, they will let you go. They get paid to be there anyway.
