Z-Tube K&N sluggish below 1.5K

I just installed Z-Tube and K&N filter and did a reset on the ECU (05 6MT). Now it seems that when starting to move from 1st gear that i have to put more gas for it to move, it feels that it has less power now especially when making a reverse. before i dont even have to put that much gas and the car starts to move already with authority, now i have to put more gas just to have that same authority to move. Plus the sound wasn't much of a difference IMHO, atleast not much to justify a $120 worth of mod which by the way doesnt add much power either. It seems a little better when hitting the higher RPM maybe because of the ECU Reset or the Temp (around 30 deg). Any thought on 1st Gear slow start?

Hmmm . . . You make quite an interesting observation . . . Allow me to explain. I have the Z Tube/K&N combo. Some 3 months ago, I replace the K&N filter with the OEM filter for various reasons. I installed Motordyne's MREV mod some 2 months ago and everything was great. I just re-installed the K&N drop-in filter about 2 days ago. I just noticed this afternoon that 1st is alot less responsive.

This evening while driving to and from dinner, it was really noticeable. Needless to say, after I read your post . . . I took the K&N filter out and replaced it with the OEM filter, prior to responding to your post. I am curious what will develop over the next couple of days.

I was going to install my z-tube this weekend and then plenum spacer.....now i'm scared

but i have an 03 A/T, so hopefully i'll notice a better difference than you ^_^ (is it me or does it seem taht those with 05+s seem to be the ones making negative comments about replacing with a z-tube)

It's not the Z Tube that I noticed the difference with. It's the K&N filter, which has made the difference. Perhaps the K&N does not work well with my current plenum mods. I'll know in a couple of days.

i doubt a k&n would cost you power with a plenum; hell, i've seen bone stock coupes dyno +5rwhp from just adding the k&n by itself

My original post was in direct response to the original poster. I noticed the same when I replaced my OEM filter with the K&N filter just a couple of days ago. I now have replaced the K&N with the origial OEM filter. If my !st gear low end goes back to the way it was prior to the filter switch, that will be proof enough for me.

Interesting. Keep us posted Please!

From what it sounds like to me, being a memeber for several months, that this car of ours just might possibly be "tuned" factory "as good as it gets" almost.

In other words, some changes/mod's might make things worse rather than better?

Anyone agree, disagree?

Just the pattern I'm beginning to see...?

No matter how much power you have it's never enough and you get too used to it.

We'll watch for your comments since I have the same set up.

hmm...maybe i will buy an OEM filter and give it a try. It has been quite a while since my k&n has been on so if there is a difference I should be able to feel it. I will update if I get around to doing this, since it is the holidays.

I would be interested to know. The MREV Plus is on the delivery truck aimed at my house, and I was going to buy the Z-tube K&N filter combo. Maybe it will just be the z-tube now.

screw the ztube, just get a stillen CAI. if anything ive only seen positive results and feedback from the stillen intake. however i have heard the stillen and ztube are a good combo. take into account too that hes talkin about the 05 6spd for you 04 and below it could be a different case with the ztube & kn drop in.

I had just a K&N panel filter and added a Z-tube. I definitely noticed an improvement in performance. Occasionally the rear will step out unexpectedly on the 2-3 shift if I don't have the stability control on.

Anyone know if anyone has actually dynoed these mods before and after?

I have an 05 6mt with z tube/k&n and noticed no difference after install. It was the same with my 03 5at. No one should notice a difference. It's all psychosomatic since we're only talking about a couple horsepower here.
