Problems with MSRP
Problems with MSRP
Hey, first post here.
I am seriously considering purchasing a G35 5MT, Premium Package. Several dealers in the Philly area have told me that they cannot discount the MSRP because of such high demand and low supply. But these guys (dealers) were more than willing to discount an inventory model with options that I do not want (navigation, etc.). Im not an idiot by any means, but would like to hear suggestions from those who have already purchased/leased their G35's, on how to get the best deal. The quote i was given for a coup, premium package was $34,415. I just cant get over paying sticker price for ANY car.
What is the best way to play "hardball" with my dealer?
What are my options as far as shopping outside my region via internet or otherwise?
ALL opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Problems with MSRP
From what I have read on here you should be very happy if you get anything off MSRP. I got $350 off by letting the dealer know that their nearest competitor was offering $300 off MSRP. They got $70 of those back however... they added a trunkmat. I didn't object as they also threw in a "baggage net" that normaly cost $40 or so for free. I was also very impressed with the service and the extras the dealership provided. I think you definatly should shop around in your area and select a dealer that seems fair and that you are comfortable with. For me it was free pickup of the car for services and free oilchanges as long as I have the vehicle that sealed the deal. Good luck!

Re: Problems with MSRP
I had problems with MSRP too.. *but* the car was worth it.. and high demand means higher resale.
There is one good thing about no dealers coming off of MSRP, it will help your resale tremendously...

Re: Problems with MSRP
believe us when we say this, you would be lucky to get anything off of msrp. there have been many posts relating to this issue and as stated before...supply and demand!!! therefore, the only thing you can really bargain with is getting free stuff with your purchase. i got free wheel locks, sunshade, and all-weather mats. i believe some even got a clear bra install for free. that's basically your only bargaining chip. good luck with your purchase!!!
Re: Problems with MSRP
Baggage net comes with the car as Standard Equipment. I got mine at MSRP, but they threw in Window Tint. The car is worth it. I never paid MSRP for any car before.

I paid sticker also! Dealer was very good and threw in some extras. Rosenthal Infiniti (George) in VA. was VERY good to deal with. Look for incentives as sticker is S.O.P.

Re: Problems with MSRP
i got 1000 msrp on an ordered car.
orig visited big dealer, did test drives, etc... this was a saturday.
later called another dealer little farther away. on phone, he kind of hinted he might be flexible.
monday went back to big dealer with fiancee, did more tests, started talking prices. he wouldn't budge. said i'd call back next day.
next day i called other dealer. oh, this day was the day dealerships input monthly orders (2nd or 3rd of month). said i tested at the big dealer, his competition. said if they took 1000 off msrp, i'd order over phone, put down credit card deposit. slight haggling, i said this is a no brianer for you.
done deal.
and in fact, this negotiated price will be honored for an 04. based on timing of my order, we later determined it was an 04. numberous confirmations locked the price.

Re: Problems with MSRP
If you really want the car, be prepared to MSRP. If you are not willing to pay the "MSRP," then you will probably not get the 6MT version of the vehicle for a while. The person right behind you will grab it.
If paying the MSRP is a problem, think about how much the vehicle would go for if there was not baseline, let the supply meet demand. I guarantee the MSRP would be even higher.
The biggest determinant is market...if there are many dealers in the area, you have more of a chance than more limited markets. People on this board who get $$ off MSRP are the exception and not the rule.

Re: Problems with MSRP
Agree with Mcleo. You don't state if it's coupe or sedan 6m you're looking at, but from what I've heard, dealers are a bit hard up for 6m sedans, too. That said, I don't necessarily agree with others that if dealers hold the line now on msrp for 6m, that will eventually increase resale value. Dealers are notorious for, down the line, dropping prices below msrp on formerly hot selling cars. That, and other factors, will affect the resale value of the car.
But, while you will read of those getting dollars off msrp, it is rare. You'd be wise to contact Studlymobile by pm'ing him and ask him where he cut this deal. And you'd be wise to talk with dealers within a reasonable georgraphic diameter from your home. As I've said elsewhere, however, no phone deal is a deal until the gen. sales manager puts his/her signature on the deal---so, if you're talking over the phone and the number sounds good, have the salesperson get the gsm to sign it and fax it to you (in many states, a signed fax is a binding legal document).
If you can't get past paying msrp, I'd say you're in trouble buying a 6m Infiniti. I've been there, and own a 6m coupe, so I hear you. It's your choice.

Re: Problems with MSRP
I just reconfirmed that I got $500 off 2004 MSRP (dealer did NOT know the 2004 MSRP yet) for my Twilight Blue 6MT. Everything is in writing. It's also a factory order-- they said they put in their orders 1st 2 days of each month, so mine went in a few days ago, and it may be 4 months before it shows up. In the meantime, my deposit is refundable so if any unspoken for 2004s show up at this or other dealer I can take a shot at them (doubtful because of the popularity especially the new color). I think if it's a high volume dealer and they get alot of allocation they will be more likely to do "something" in terms of discount even though the car sells itself.
Re: Problems with MSRP
This is one of those car on earth that's worth every penny at MSRP. I really can't think of many other cars out there which I can say the same thing. It looks more expensive than MSRP, it drives more expensive than MSRP, It feels more expensive than MSRP, well it must be worth at "LEAST" MSRP.
Damn, this car puts a smile on face everytime I see it and drive it.

Re: Problems with MSRP
If your are trading something in for a new G don't be to concerned about whatever you are getting off of MSRP. The G is worth MSRP in my opininion but thats besides the point. You should be more concerned with doing your homework and finding out what your trade-in is actually worth and work off the middle figure between that and the G.
I have done this on every car I've purchased for the last 20 years but on this one I admit I kind of screwed up. I went into my nearest Infiniti dealer to just test drive the G. For the first time in my life, I bought it on the spot without researching blue book on my current car. They offered $800 off MSRP right off the bat and the next thing I know I'm signing papers with a gleam in my eye! The bad part is that since I made an impulse buy without checking blue book on my trade in, I now think I could have gotten at least another $800 for my old car, maybe more had I haggled some.
The bottom line is that when you look at the middle figure, I really bought my G basically at MSRP. Oh well, lesson learned for me about impulse buying I guess. Now, if you don't have a trade in and are paying cash, haggle the hell out of them. The 04's will be on top of them in no time and they should be ready to deal depending on their inventory. I still wouldnt expect more that about $1000 off MSRP though for this car from what I've read. On a cash buy, just get what you can off MSRP and be happy with anything you save. If they won't deal, make a call to the next nearest dealer and ask for the sales manager. Tell him you're about to buy from your closest dealer at X dollars and ask him if he can do better. I didn't have that luxury since my nearest dealer was over 100 miles and the next ones were alot further. Hope this helps.
