Removing the power duct?

I've read that removing the power duct (Thing near the air box labeled 'power duct') causes, in the summer, a mild engine temperature increase (~10deg. difference) but gives a better air induction sound and is a good trade-off since you arn't losing anything.

Has anybody done this on their coupe? Thoughts? (supposedly it's good to do if you have a z-tube+k&n.....)

"My Dear Watson" lol

No, I haven't heard anything about this, BUT wouldn't you be "losing" something by having the engine temp go up by 10 degrees? Isn't that a lot?
HP loss?

The result is in - https://g35driver.com/forums/reviews/79391-my-review-z-tube-no-power-duct.html

If you have a 350z intake tube, ****ing remove that bitch! I can't believe how loud the exhaust howls now (while still retaining it's coupe sound....make it sound almost like a forged engine)

Even if you want to argue a slight power loss from the engine being +10degrees hotter (no power loss ever proven based on my research), anything you lost you make up for with the z-tube+k&n and is soooooooooo worth it for the sound

....Throw on a spacer and I can onyl imagine (now I wish I were more mechanically inclnided so i could install my MD spacer and see the difference now)

Well you intrigued me, so I removed the power duct to see what it was all about (took all of 30 seconds w/ the handle of a screwdriver on the inside of the intake box). Definitely noticed a lot stronger/louder noise from the intake/Z-tube under WOT in the 3K RPM and up range! That was the only audible change I noticed (idle & normal acceleration remained the same, though I do have a sedan & not the coupe, so your sound may differ). Thanks for the tip!

technically speaking an increase in engine temperature will cause a decrease in hp, however if other factors of the incoming air change (ie pressure, volume) it may compensate for the loss, 10 degrees however is a minimal change in temperature when compared to the overall engine temperature, so even if there is an effect it would not be noticeable by simply driving the car
