My review: z-tube+no power duct....

03 1/2 AT coupe

Install was easy - if you follow the directions from 6mt.net, very simple, took me like 20minutes (keeping in mind i'm totally car retarded). Removal of the power duct was harder - those damn clips didn't want to come off, and i ended up breaking one and losing its pieces somewhere in the engine cover...didn't feel like removing the stupid plastic cover, so i'll let them fall out in time. (fyi, the power duct is thing labeled POWER DUCT on the air box, NOT the long tube that attaches to the left of the air box, as I'd initally thought

Thoughts:
No power loss or gain noticed anywhere
Under 3 1/2k i wasn't that impressed (i.e., no change in sound or anything). At that point I was really sad that I'd just wasted my time and money on it. But then I gave it a quick run, and OMFG, i think I pee'd myself a little. After 3 1/2k it sounds like you have a forged engine or atleast some exhaust setup. It just ****ing howls.

I read another review on here where the guy said the same thing - sounded like an exhaust setup - and I doubted him. I had an off-road exhaust on my mustang and loved it because it was loud, so I doubted how a simple intake mod would make the exhaust howl. But damn, I was wrong. Like I said, after about 3 1/2 it friggen howls. I even lost the back-end shifting around 5k in 1st gear (havn't done that before, probably because of my tires - p275s firehawk SZ50 EPs). Crazy, crazy.

So yea, for like $50 and 20minutes of your time, this is definately worth doing. Just ****ing insane. I have no idea how much removing the power duct contributed to the sound, but judging from reviews on z-tubes alone, i'd have to say a fair bit - it just fricken howls no (and i can live w/ my engine being +10degrees hotter since i'm not losing any hp/tq)

Next up - install my 1/2'' iso thermal MD spacer.....I'm just fricken salivating at the thought of it after reading all the positive reviews on spacers, like they make the car come alive.

I know.....hence why I'm already salivating

I'd install the spacer myself, but I'm soooooo not mechanically inclined and I can see myself breaking a bolk and dropping parts into the manifold and whatnot :/ ... so I have to wait 3months until spring to get the local performance shop to do it for me.
