Opinions on In Dash Navi Setup

Do you guys think this is worth it... for once in my life I'm going non performance for a car... ofcourse I picked a G35 because it is no crab, it still got the performance added on with luxury and not once in my auto history have I been able to keep warranty because of my power mod crisis... anyways....

I noticed quite a few of you guys have had done in dash navi set up for those G's that didn't come equipped.. I'm planning on doing something like this soon enough and I really use the navi often so it's definately something I could use. I'm looking more into the Avic D1.

This entire set up is going to cost me close to 2k I think.

$500 for all parts related to the Double Din Dash kit.

$1300 Avic D1

$100 for all wiring

Some of you guys who have done this... is it worth it to you?... it's alotta cash for me to dish out right now and with Christmas swarming by it has cleaned me out.. also adding on to my loss of previous car I just purchased the G35 so I dished out a few grand to put down and taxes etc...

Part of me tells me I shouldn't do this.. but I also really want it.. so I might just be like ohh what the hell but I need stop doing that because I always say ahh what the hell.. and throw in wasteful money into my cars.

Ignore that man. I heard people with aftermarket NAV are happier because its got more features than the OEM unit, and you can play DVDs on it. To me, it seems like a better choice. I will be getting the same unit, once I bounce back from Mortgage and closing cost woes.......

Yah.. I really want the Nav... I was in a rush to buy a car and I got this good deal on a black G so I took it.. unfortunetly it doesn't have the factory nav or spoiler... 2 things I really wanted..

The only thing is I think 2K for indash nav is pricey.. I use to own one of those Magellen M5's or whatever and it wasn't bad beside the fact it doesn't look great hanging from your window.

ok.. wow more pushes and I might just go ahead looks like you all for it

well small things first... I'm going to go ahead and get that double din dash kit with the AC controller.. I want to order it from grubbs... they list it's for 05-06 models... would it fit fine for my 04?

I also want the thing to keep my steering wheel controls... this may sound corny but this is my first car with a decent interior and I'm getting spoiled over the small things like steering wheel controls.

You might consider installing CarPC instead or in addition.
I am not sure that 05 DDD kit will fit 04 without modifications.

Most of all the G35 products on that site is sold out.. and they only thing they really have is like that screen with the housing.. after doing a little more research the 05-06 models is different interior from the 03-04's...

I did see a couple of key pieces I will need for the installation on...

AC CONTROLLER - About $165.00

http://performancenissanparts.com/ca...oducts_id=4952

JDM DOUBLE DIN CONSOLE About - $68.95

http://performancenissanparts.com/ca...oducts_id=4950

JDM DOUBLE DIN BRACKET - About $41.95

http://performancenissanparts.com/ca...oducts_id=4951

PIONEER AVIC D1 - About $1,200.00 at Crutchfield.

Ok... so if that website has the stuff they say they have.. I'm at a good start... but now I'm looking for the unit wiring accessories... crutchfield doesn't seem to help they think no aftermarket fits the G35 Coupe.. example HEAD UNIT WIRING HARNESS/RADIO WIRING HARNESS.

Also I think I read one or two posts stating someone did something similiar to this and being able to keep there steering wheel controls... If any of you guys have done this before please be kind enough to shed some light on this topic please.

Also is the Pioneer Avic D1 a good unit to watch DVD's as well?.. Is there another option I should also look into I know some you got different brands and different kinds of this type of head unit. I think I read somewhere it doesn't allow you to play DVD's while your car is moving... which is pretty stupid.

Sorry for the long post but I'm very excited to start this soon.

I had an Eclipse AVN5435 installed in my 2005 G35 and I love it. It's a great mod as far as I'm concerned.

The 2005 dash kit does not fit the 2004. You should go to the AVE section as Beowulf suggested and do a bit of reading.

Yes, several companies make Steering Wheel Interface boxes. I have a Peripheral box that emits remote control codes to the head unit. The "off" button is programmed to "Mute" instead of "Off" which fits my needs better. No one wants to lose their steering wheel controls.

Wow.. that looks awesome I love it.. I was really excited about this but I may hold off a bit for now.. I do have a Dell Axim with GPS enabled.. but like I said it's not appealing to me handing off the windshield.

I did do a whole lot of reading about it now I sort of understand, I just don't know where to buy some of the stuff. I guess I can google it. I was reading blackonblackG35 I think that's what his name was and he did a small write up but alot of pics on his installation.

I think I may plan a couple other things first before I decide to dish out 2k on this work and if I went with the eclipse like yours I would probably need another 500-1000 dollars.
