The graphic on the existing logo is nice, but could use some type with a bit more character, IMHGO! (In My Humble Graphic Opinion)

Very rough, but.............

Talking

Here's my entry for the logo, it's pretty simple, but easy to read.

The second set is the same but with slightly thicker G35 letters.

Thanks,

speedraver

most importantly it's best if the logo is made with vector art (adobe illustrator) vs. a paint program (adobe photoshop) so the size it's printed at doesn't matter since it's not made with pixels-which if blown up, you lose resolution....The Vector art keeps track of the relationships between these points and paths. Everytime the image is scaled, the paths are regenerated... this creates images that are infinitely scalable without degradation.
Trae, great explanation there! The designs I've shown could be converted to vector in minutes, I just did them in Photoshop since I used the G35 badge pic at this point! I'd sure like to find the font they used for G35, I've found close, but not exact. Oh, by the way, I am a graphic artist..........or was.

Question for Trae:
As ABQ_G35 mentioned above, how will the vector conversion effect a design that incorporates an image or picture? Such as my latest entry here. I have alot of experience with Photoshop, but none with Illustrator, which I actually purchased this past weekend. (Havent loaded it yet)

Well, the photo would have to be converted to a vector graphic, what I would do with mine, if I can't locate the font, would be to redraw it in Illustrator, the car would be a bit more time consuming, but it could be done. You have any tricks Trae?

There is a program called Streamline that converts normal pics to vector art... takes some tweeking but it works alright... unless you are a hell of an artist and can draw or trace what you want in illustrator... having picture in a logo like your is nice , but..... there are problems you will run into depending on what you use it for....because it's pixelated and not vector... if you know photoshop.. if you blow up a pic that's 72 d.p.i. to roughly 300 d.p.i. (which is great for printing) it will look very blurry and just bad.... try it... if the picture was already huge and at the correct d.p.i. that's better..but still not the way to go... what logos out there have actual pictures in their logos? I can't think of one... I'll post what streamline does to actual pictures to give you an idea of what could be done.... load illustrator soon and play with it.... and it's better for text too... will be alot crisper..

That was my real question. Can Illustrator convert the .jpg or .bmp or would I have to draw (re-create) the car from scratch as a vector?
I have done this in Flash MX but as you say, its time consuming.
I think I will give it a try using this design.
It will be a good challenge at my first attempt with Illustrator.

BTW, I hope its OK for us to be discussing computer applications instead of cars here. After all it does relate to the contest.

I didn't realize Streamline was still around, I had used that a few times back in the mid 90's, but haven't seen it since, I wasn't real crazy about that version. I do see that Illustrator CS2 has a feature called LiveTrace, and according to Adobe, that is the replacement for Streamline, let's see, I just ordered the upgrade! I agree, though, not many logo's have an actual photo in their design.

Yeah, cool !
I like that.

So this was done in Illustrator?

You beat me to the punch on the oval.
Try one with an outer stroke and lets see what it looks like.
