shifting at higher RPMs

I have an '05 6mt. I now have the rogue short shifter and love it. Before with my OEM setup once in awhile I would not be able to get into gear while shifting aggressively at higher RPMs. Since I installed the short shifter, i havent had that problem, but today I tried to switch into second at around 6.5K (I usually dont take it up this high, but I installed the stillen box/z-tube combo and was having fun with it) and it would not go into gear and I ended up slightly grinding the gear before going into 3rd.

Have any of you guys came across this problem? Like I said I very rarely get that, but is there a mechanical reason for this? The only other time I cant get into 2nd gear or have a hard time doing it, is when my car had just been started and its cold and I try to down shift into 2nd from 3rd.

By the way, since having the car for almost a year, I prob grinded gears 4 times in total, once pretty hard. How much of damage do you think this did to my tranny/gears? Or our trannys can handle a slight grind once in a long while?

you probably didn't wait enough for the syncro's to do its job.

a little grinding here and there is fine. you're not actually grinding the teeth,
you're griding the gear's collar.

^you probably right about the syncros. I think i shifted a little too fast while engaging the clutch. Or maybe i simply shifted a split second before the clutch was fully engaged. My only ? now is why is it so hard to downshift into 2nd during the first minute after cold start? And its not a prob to upshift into 2nd.

I ll start pushing my car more from now on, I think the car got too much rest during the last 6K miles I am just glad to know that the tranny can handle a few grinds.

if it makes u guys feel any better i probably hit the redline 10-20 times a day if not more.. usually in low gear (yeah i know lol).. dragged alot (axels started clicking pretty soon) to give u guys an idea i went through the stock tires and was a month away from needing new ones and it hasnt been a year yet. front brakes already change pads and resurfaced and has hard spots on them. but yeah as for the tranny.. alot of dragging cars similiar/little better/if not exactally the same as me so alot of power shifting to keep up/win. and to make matters worst i always had my hand on the shifter (casues wear on the shift forks).. around 10months into it my 6th started grinding and shifts werent as smooth, also 1st was harder to get into and would grind sometime. the only way to make 6th not grind was to double clutch or shift to 5th then 6th.. this was 24,000 miles and trans change every 6,000miles or every 2 oil changes and changed diff oil 3-4 times i dont remember. went syn at around 10k.
