Question How do you shift YOUR G?

Not really seen these questions before, so I thought I would throw them out there. Many of them are traffic questions.

1. In traffic, you are in 2nd and at 4000 rpm. You are pretty sure you are going to have to stop in 5-15 seconds. Do you stay moving along at 4000rpm until you have to stop or go ahead and up-shift to 3rd?

2. In traffic, you are in third and slowing down. You are pretty sure you are not going to have to stop but you are gonna have to go down to at least second. Do you break and down-shift or do you just down-shift?

3. You are 10-20th in line at a red light. And the automatics keep creeping up (for no apparent reason) so you now have at least a one car-length gap between you and the car in front of you. The person behind you has also creeped up because its just what people in automatics do. Do you drop it into first and creep up or just let the gap remain?

4. In traffic again and you are in third going about 10 mph at under 1000 RPM. You are not stuttering yet and you feel like you are going to be getting up to speed in a few seconds. Do you downshift or just leave it in third hoping you will be increasing speed soon.

5. Look at question 3 again. Now imagine you have a car-length gap and you are in the left lane (where everyone needs to be). Those in the right lane wait till the last minute to merge into the left lane to jump up ahead of everyone. Now do you leave the gap or do ya fill it to keep the jackasses out?

Now I am curious as to what you all do and curious as to what people think you should do with a stick?

Dont have to think that much. Just something you have to deal with daily if you drive a manual in traffic.

I bought an AT5 so I could avoid all this nonsense. I'm also fairly n00bish when it comes to driving manual in traffic but here're my answers:

I'd go to 3rd the first couple times. If I got tired of that I'd look for an alternate route!

2. In traffic, you are in third and slowing down. You are pretty sure you are not going to have to stop but you are gonna have to go down to at least second. Do you break and down-shift or do you just down-shift?
If you got the G cuz you love the exhaust note, you revmatch that bish down into 2nd without braking so you look all . Then the hot babe in the passenger seat (u got a hot babe in passenger seat, right?) is like, "oooo! you're such a manly man, man!" and these ninjas ride up on motorcycles and wail on guitars while you make out and then when you stop they wail harder and explode.

3. You are 10-20th in line at a red light. And the automatics keep creeping up (for no apparent reason) so you now have at least a one car-length gap between you and the car in front of you. If there's no chance of someone coming up in a neighboring lane and cutting in, screw 'em, don't waste the clutch on them.

4. In traffic again and you are in third going about 10 mph at under 1000 RPM. You are not stuttering yet and you feel like you are going to be getting up to speed in a few seconds. Do you downshift or just leave it in third hoping you will be increasing speed soon.
I install NAWSSSSSSSS and spray the NAWSSSSSSS so my car takes off like a rocket. Uhm, depends on how hard you might have to accelerate. If mildly, stay in 3rd, if quickly, drop to 2nd.

Depends on my mood.

I usually just leave it in gear and slow to a stop. It totally your preference though.

Normally both, but you could just clutch and break.

I hate creapers. Typically they will just ride up on you again, so stay put.

I always downshift.

Keep the jackasses out. Don't give 'em an inch or they might just take a fender out.

Now I am curious as to what you all do and curious as to what people think you should do with a stick?
Questions answered in quote.

1. Stay in 2nd gear.
2. Downshift to 2nd.
3. Stay put.
4. Downshift always.
5. Move slightly to the right to take up the space seal the gap.

Screw him. He's just mad that I am banging the Baroness!
Here is the 3 of us at a New Years Party. I am sure if he didn't have his mask on you could see how insanely jealous he was of our love. Whatever, he had his chance, she chose me!

HE has legitimate questions. They are wordy questions, but since he just can't post videos of each scenario he has to describe them. Damn you guys are weird LOL!

1) I like the sound of the engine/exhaust at that RPM, so I may leave it there. It depends on traffic around me, if I am just hanging at that speed holding people up I would shift to 3rd and then slow down using method in #2

2) I'm a big believer in using my brakes for what they are there for: stopping. Most of the time I leave the car in the gear I was in and start applying brake as if I were driving an automatic. The G has enough torque to leave it in a higher gear all the way down to around 1K RPM before you need to clutch in.

3) Stay. Until they figure out how to drive I will always let the gap. I was in this massive rush of traffic last 4th of July and this guy in front of me in an auto was leaving about an 8 car length gap in front of him and was just rolling the whole time. As any MT driver knows your car usually rolls faster than theirs, so you end up having to clutch in all the time. Well the moron did this for 20 minutes in traffic before I had enough....so I waited for traffic to stop coming the other way and passed him. So did 4 people behind me LOL!

4) Downshift usually. I'll leave it in 3rd if I KNOW that it will be moving again.

5) Usually the jackasses will get in if they want. I usually keep the gap a little closer in this situation not only to keep jackasses out but to avoid a potential accident. I have seen them slamming on their brakes while merging into that tiny space...accident waiting to happen. Let the dumbasses figure it out on their own.
