MREV .... Hood closing issue????

About to order MREV for '06 Coupe and heard that you might have to remove engine cover to have room to close hood. Can anyone address that? I would much prefer to leave engine compartment looking "stock" . TIA for your responses!

yeah i believe if you get the 1/2" plenum spacer along with the mrev you have to remove your engine cover. i believe the 5/16" would work with the engine cover on

The engine cover is merely a big piece of plastic to make it look pretty and hold in extra heat. The car will still look stock even without it if you have the MREV. IIRC also the MREV with the 5/16" spacer doesn't cause any problems with the engine cover. I would suggest removing the thing anyway as it is just causing more heat buildup. That was my first "mod"! Hang that baby up in the garage!!!

I installed the MREV Plus with a 5/16" inch spacer over 2 months ago. The hood closed without any issues. Nonetheless, I removed the engine cover some 2 days after the install for the very same reason, as Cheryl states.

Haven't some of you with the MREV custom-cut your engine cover to accomodate the raised upper plenum height? I know someone has a photo of this somewhere.

That might be the case for the 1/2" spacer. I don't think that I have read about the engine cover/hood issue for the 5/16" spacer.

The engine cover/hood issue has more to do with the Iso Thermal Plenum Spacer kit, which happens to be one of the MREV's components . . . Rather than being directly attributed to the MREV itself.

As I see it . . . The height of the Aramid gasket combined with the height of the plenum spacer raises the final finished height of the plenum assembly . . . Thus creating the infamous engine cover/hood issue. However, I believe this issue is relegated only to some of the 1/2" spacer installations.

Edited: For those of you, whom have installed the 1/2" spacer . . . You might try removing the 4 rubber grommets, which are located on the underside of the engine cover. The removal of the said grommets may afford the engine cover the proper clearance.

I customized a 350Z cover which leaves the plenum exposed.
Not quite done yet so no pics yet....
