05 Coupe 6MT notchy feel question
[QUOTE=O'sG]i absolutely hate the 1st to 2nd shift on my 05. 2nd gear is by far the worst one to get into smoothly. I can only get a smooth shift maybe 2 out every 10 times. All the other times, it feels like metal to metal or sometimes it feels like i am hitting something before it goes in. Its does not matter whether I shift super fast or super slow.
QUOTE]
yea... i went into the dealership to check out the transmission about the rattling noise that the tranny makes and the service manager says thats how infiniti designed it... it is consistant with another 6mt they had in the shop that infiniti bought back... they call it "gear clash"... if i wanted my gears to clash i would have bought a 350z... i do not expect this out of a 40k dollar vehicle

The 'clunk' is from moving the shiftter into 2nd with clutch still down.

I get the "clunk" sound sometimes too when I put it into 2nd gear before releasing the clutch. Also regardless of whether the car is warm or cold I have issues with 2nd. Although I sometimes get a smooth shift when the car has just been started and is cold, so I dont think the issue is with engine temp.

That may happen. I am monitoring your MREV thread.

It sounds like the clutch is abruptly disengaged or something.
I know that exact "thunk" sound. I get that too from time to time when clutching in 1st. To tell you the truth i learned to live with all these sounds, thinking its normal. Until the tranny falls out
I dont think there is a way to get the dealer to admit its a problem.

what about that odd farting noise that happens when engine is still cold as you shift from 1 to 2.
this is in addition to the clunk.
I kid you not, mine makes brrrr when shifting 1-2 when she's still cold.
mine's an '05 6spd sedan with ~3.5K miles - brrrrp noise has been there since the begining - had I heard it on test drive I probably wouldnt have bought it without doing some serious research first.
also - I agree with the comment earlier about motor and tranny being tuned for higher revs than just loafing around - she gets much smoother reving beyond 3K
