My car seems to be dumping into 1st gear when I am driving in manumatic mode. It happens when she is slowing down to a roll. It also happened yesterday when I switched into manumatic while rolling. Is it normal? should I take her in?

in manumatic mode, the car automatic shifts it to first gear when you're almost coming to a complete stop..

i myself didn't know about this either when i first got my AT, but there were some posts about this before.. just a normal thing..

 

Mine does that too, especially when it's cold and it's not warmed up. To my mind it's normal.
I can't tell how abruptly yours downshifts, but if you think it's too much, then have the service peeps look at it.

Uhm.....no offense to you guys, but the owners manual is something that you might need to read. They don't print those things for nothing. It clearly states why the tranny is downshifted automatically, in the owners manual.

I agree with you, I have posted 2 times regarding this situation. It seems like an abrupt dump into first gear. For some reason, my brother 4 doors feels silky smooth. I was told because of the added 20 more horse power.

 

If you let it downshift from 3rd to 1st, then it's smooth. However, if you manually downshift to 2nd, and let the car downshift to 1st, it's a bit harsh. For some reason the car doesn't like downshifting to 1st from 2nd. Is this what you are noticing?

That is exacty what happens in my G. Otherwise nice and smooth.

 

Zorro, you are right, this car don't like shifting from 2nd to 1st. But for some reason in the sedan it is so so smooth, I almost wish I have the set up of the Sedan and the body of the coupe

 

I'll definitely bring it up when I go for service.

Mozy, the fact that it is downshifting isn't the issue- it is that he thinks it is downshifting harsh.

I experience the same thing. When I use 2nd to downshift, I kick it into drive/auto again right before it shifts. It is shooth on mine as long as I am not in manumatic mode AND in 2nd.

Yeah, it definately feels harsh, I am still going to bring it up next time I go in. I will try stopping from 3rd gear and then 2nd gear and see what happens. Thanks

I showed it to the dealer on Friday, and he said it's normal when you are in manumatic. I guess we'll have to live with it.
