Installed mine yesterday. Piece of cake. Took 10 seconds. Pop the left one off and replace with a right side cover. No need to mess with the lock. In an emergency, you could pop the cover off to get at your keyhole (i.e. locked yourself out of the car ).

Batteries go dead. Squirrel mistakes your key fob for a slipper and runs off w/ it. You go swimming and forget that your keys are in your pocket short circuiting your fob making it useless. Key fob pirates corner you in a dark alley and take your beloved fob from you. See, lots of reasons to keep the cylinder there.

It can just be swapped that easily? I wrote this off after seeing that you had to loosen the lock, etc. All I want is to be able to pop the old off and pop on the new, which is the case if you don't want to remove the tumbler, correct?

Does the original pop off easily? What have you all been using, just a blade or screwdriver to get under it?

I just bought a torx head screwdriver, I believe size 20. I bought a set, so I don't remember. Then I loosened the screw and popped off the cap and popped on the new cap. Funny thing is that I didn't loosen it fully and ended up popping off the cap w/ a paint stirring stick b/c it's soft wood. I guess you could do it w/o loosening it. Literally took me less than 5 minutes. Looks so much better.

Maybe my '06 is different but I doubt it. The part description says '03-'06. If you look at the metal part that comes with the escutcheon, you'll see that the plastic cover just clips over it. I use a very small precision screwdriver. I inserted it very carefully between the escutcheon and the door from the underside. I applied a little pressure from right to left (toward front of car) to help unclip the part and gently pried it off. Removal and replacement took 10 seconds. When you look at the replacement piece, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Thanks. I'll go ahead and pick one up. And as a bonus, that keyhole won't get so F'n dirty.

Just did mine, same here: loosened the screw and popped off the cap and popped on the new cap.

My G came with these already on and color matched. Is this not normal?

Can you see the keyhole in the driver's side door handle? This mod eliminates the keyhole from view.

So basically the escutcheon just pops off with a little gentle force? No need to get invasive with the procedure? If this is correct I'm buying one today.

Pretty much dude. It's stupid easy and look spectacular. I still look at it everytime I approach the car. The screw we're talking about is accessed through a grommet on the inside part of the door. Just open your door and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Yup, saw it when I opened up the door this morning. Putting this on my mod list for '06! So easy! Why isn't everyone doing it!

Anyone know where else I can order this from? Infiniti-parts.com is backordered on this item, and they say it will take a few weeks to get it directly from Infiniti.
