i never leave my driver side exposed... i usually find an end spot, like you mentioned that you had, so if the curb is on the left i pull in, if its on the right i back in... basically sometimes its just going to happen, at least its on the passager side and i do not see it all the time getting into my car until its pdr'd

Park Smart Guards

Let us know how they work out. I looked at them as a must buy (same types of stupid people park next to me also), ugly but if they work well worth the money. I do wonder about the theft problem though. I have to use Locktite on my valve stem covers to keep the little bandits around here from stealing them, I can see those guards disappearing pretty quickly.

Yes, please do let us know how they work out. Being in pharmaceutical sales, I'm forced to park in spots I wouldn't normally, but I'd rather have a door ding than be late for a customer meeting. The first is fixable, the second...not so much! I wouldn't mind it being so fugly, just as long as I can park and leave my car relatively worry-free.

Heres an idea, whenever you can, park in the middle of two spaces, it will give everyone around you plent of space to open doors. People might think your stupid, but it works, beleive me.

Those will work to prevent some door dings but not all. Look at any 4 door sedan. Note how the rear doors have a sharp angular protrusion near the top of the rear edge of the door as it sweeps above the rear wheel well. When that part swings out it will cause a door ding high up on your door just below your window. I'd hate for you to spend your hard earned money just to write us back saying how you still got a door ding on it...

Well, I know these things are UGLY as can be but it's not like I'd drive around with them or use them anywhere else. They are just for my apartment spot of all places. I am just using them overnight in attempts to avoid dings from my careless neighbor(s). I don't mind having them there while it's parked in a corner overnight... after all I don't fix up my G for others to look at and ESPECIALLY for others to ding or flaw, I fix my G up for my OWN driving and viewing pleasure and I would like to have piece of mind for parking my beloved toy in my own G-damn parking spot.

Parking between two spaces is for a-holes because that is just not courteous at all... after all it's no lamborghini but I just don't like the fact that I have to do all this just to protect my own property? It should just be common courtesy and respect for each other's belongings. I don't care if I see a hoopty or a PHAT ride, I treat them all alike with the utmost respect... equal or even better than I would treat my own.

Oh btw, in order for them to be effective, you have to gauge where the edge of their door(s) front AND rear if need be, will hit your car... that's why I bought TWO. For sedans because that's what's usually there.

I've had 2 of these for about 2 years. They work very well and I have no dings. 98% of the time, I am able to pick a wide/corner/protected spot.. but every once and awhile I have to park with other cars. The last time was at a hotel, we got there at 2am and there were no parking spaces ANYWHERE. I was luckly they kept a spot for me at all. The other is when I've had reservations for a nice restaurant and the place is packed. I cant really let down my wife because the parking spot isnt good enough. However, she has suggested we go elsewhere when she knows I'm going to be worried about the car.

They really dont stand out that much. They look like $hit in pics. But on the car, its no big deal. Nobody has stolen them, or done anything to my car because I had them on (unlike some of you suggested you would do, luckily I havent been anywhere near you). Usually, you see the kind of car next to you and can place them accordingly. I usually only do it if the other car has chips on the edge.

The last time I had them on, I watched the guy parked next to me walk over and look at it, then very carefully open the door of his POS beater car. I had all the same reservations you guys have. The guy thats going to key your car will not be more or less inclined to. Anybody else that sees them seem to think you just dont want your car dinged.

the only downside I have found is that you dont want to slap them on a dirty door, otherwise you need to put them on/take them off very carefully. I suspect if you got a hit with with dirt between the silicon/magnet material, you'd get tiny scratches.

wat you can do is put band-aid where the magnets are...i think imma buy one... i'm sure i can find a way to have a security for this...(i.e the small door alarm system where you have two sensors that goes off when two are seperated.. hmm...) i'll reasearch.. i think imma order one just for times when i have to park in a tight spot..

damn guys I just got an email from AUTOPIA, those door protection things are SOLD OUT and DISCONTINUED so they will cancel my order.

Oh well, I was having second thoughts anyways because they are a GREAT idea and they will not get stolen but my main concern was about scratches if people touch or tug on them out of curiosity... just causing a line of unsightly scratches from the magnet and dirt trapped between the unit and the paint. So better off without them I guess.

I'll just make sure and invent a motion sensor operated night vision camera which records the damage taking place while aiming a heat vision laser targeting system which shoots out a 80K volt tazer knocking the inconsiderate bastard unconscious while x-ray scanning his credit card in order to pay for PDR... =P

That door guard thing would be awesome if it magentically pushes opening doors coming at it away.

I would definately get one of those..
