clutch

Hey guys I have a question. Yesterday I come back at night with my 6mt and I stop the car the car in garage let the clutch down with no gear in, and I hear this noise from the clutch like its grinding just sitting there. And this I have never noticed before. So is this normal since I only have 400 miles on it and its still breaking in or is there something wrong with my clutch? Should I go get it checked because I never remember hearing this before.

Re: clutch

you probably let it out too fast.....thats the normal clutch engaging sound, the noise is just amplified because you were in a garage

Re: clutch

I'v taken mine to the dealer twice for that noise, he keeps telling me its "normal". I keep wanting to slap him. Let me know if you make any progress.

Re: clutch

none at all, i think it went away after i gave it some hard drivin, i expected it to be heard more so i could take it to the dealer and have him fix it. but I think thats just a normal sound for breaking in, since the clutch is not that smooth you know what i mean?

If you're talking about a noise from the tranny when it's in neutral that's louder with your foot off the clutch than on it, I think it's normal. Mine does it too. When the clutch is engaged (pedal up), some parts of the transmission are spinning even though it's in neutral, and these parts make some mechanical noise. When you press the clutch, those parts stop spinning and the noise goes away. This was the case in all manual gearbox cars I've owned, although the G35C's is slightly more noticeable for some reason. Speaking for myself, I'm not concerned about it.

Re: clutch

I have the same noise on mine as well. You can really hear it when you are in the garage...the dealer also told me it is normal. When the engine is warm, I also have a loud noise from the engine compartment...it makes the same sound as when you put a baseball card in a bicycle spoke and pedal. I am being told that this is injector noise and everyone has it. Does this sound correct?

Re: clutch

This Noise is normal...just the goodies turning inside the tranny while in neutral. Put your hand on the gear shift lever...you'll feel the vibration along with the noise as you engage and disengage the clutch.

Re: clutch

After 4300 miles, my Tranny still has the rattley noise in neutral. It is normal. With the clutch engaged, the tranny input shaft and all gearing is spinning (cuz its connected tot hte engine), however no syncro's are locked to the drive shaft to the rear. So with no load on the transmission, the internals have a tendancy to rattle a bit. My 94 MR2 does the same. Each car is different, the more high performance the transmission the "less refined for sound" it is.

If changing gear becomes diffciult and/or you experience loud clunking/grinding noises, then you are developing a problem.

Enjoy
